I have enjoyed the detail in your build, but I also like the continued posts where you have used it. Especially to travel. Love the pics from the power tour. I enjoy old cars even though I might not want to own some of them. Love the factory five daytona also. Thanks for posting.

Glad you like it. We had fun.

So, we left the casino grounds, got some inner, and went to the hotel to check in. And found the after car show show...

This was a cool truck. We talked to the owners brother.

Did you notice the emblem on the tailgate?

The view out our rooms window in the morning. It's gonna be a good day.

Very cool! It's nice to see more uniquely powered rides out there too!

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Time to finish this little road trip tale up. We gassed up and hit the road for the Dells. The scenery was alright, if you're into that sort of thing...

We stopped along the way for a leg stretch and so D could use the head.

Turns out the line was a bit long, so D found an alternative...

My brother in law recently traded a lawn mower and some other stuff for one of these...

Back on the road.

My favorite exotic car.

And we're at the Dells.

Let the congestion and over heating engine begin.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Eventually we found our way into the event. Our main objective was to look at the sponsor stuff and vendors. The day before most of it was gone or getting put away by the time we got to it and there was plenty of awesomeness to see there. This stude was outstanding and one of my favorites. Unfortunately I had only blurry shots of the front of it. All the chrome bits were a copper plate instead and it looked great.

Something for the alternative tinkerings section of the board...

Never heard of this one before but it looked badass...

The Atom...

Another cobra. I dig the colors. Gets your attention without making you think WTF?

Sweet scout...

One of the worlds longest trucks I think...

It was so long I had a hard time getting it all in a side view shot.

There was a bridge that was over a gully we walked over. I happened to look down to see how deep it was and was surprised to find not a river/creek/stream, but buildings...

More trucks...

He had a cool trunk in the back. He didn't know what it was from.

Great bed cover on that last one...

We spent a few hours looking around then hit the road for home. It's about a 5 hour drive from there to the house. Along the way we passed my trucks doppleganger in light blue.

Thats what mine looked like a few weeks before, then I dropped the ass end a couple inches.

We crossed the Mississippi at La Crosse.

Minnesota was looking more lush, all green again. It only lasts til September. After that the fields are drying out and turning brown, then harvest and back to bare dirt again. October brings the turning of the leaves and the shift to short and gray days. It's just a few months away. A dozen weeks. Doesn't seem fair, but does no good to complain. Part of what makes images like this, just another look down a highway with the sun streaming down and the land covered in green, so special.

Almost home now. Christianson Farms grain elevator is about the last landmark before rolling into town.

Coming around the bend...

Going past the grocery store...

BOTH of our stop lights ahead...

Through the lights...

And home...

Our journey ends. Another great road trip. More great days to remember spent with my kids and friends. Another reminder of why I love my truck and why I built it the way I did.

1594 miles driven, about 117 gallons of gas used, averaged 13.6 mpg. Can't complain too much about that considering how many miles we ran at 70 mph plus and all the time sitting in traffic, etc. The best tank was when we were rolling through Iowa the 1st day. All 2 lane black top at about 60 mph and I got almost 18 mpg.

A few items were added to the list for maintenance and repairs during the trip for me to take care of over the winter. Need to fix my blinker switch, which is cracked, left tail light is wonky, tach is jittery, horn doesn't work, radiator, add coolant overflow bottle and maybe do a rear shock relocation (but that's not really required).

I hope you enjoyed the highlights of my trip. I'm hoping it motivates others to get out and drive their trucks. Anywhere. Anytime. With people special to you sharing the cab and waiting for you at the end (or along the way) of your adventure. I know I can't wait til the next one.

Very nice trip ending. I definitely want to hit at least the start next year with one of my old rides.

Thanks, it was a hell of story wasn't it? Hollywood would just screw it up and make it about a failed marriage and made up drama where it isn't needed.

But in the end, the boy gets the girl. It's just not the same girl. For those of you that care, the wife and I are splitting up permanently. Not for a lack of effort by either of us, just too much damage has been done. I did meet someone new recently and she is wonderful. Maybe she'll end up in this story going forward.

Isn't it though? Costs around $120k, which is 2-3 times the cost of a finished cobra kit car. I'd drive it.

Great trip! I guess I haven't kept up with this thread over the years. It is awesome to see a thread where we get to see the project not only finished but the trips it is taken on. So many build threads fizzle out and the project vehicle is never completed or once it is completed there is no more to the story. Great thread. Thanks for sharing your trips with us as well.

Motivates? MOTIVATES? Christ man! I can't wait to finish my truck and do the same thing, but then through Europe I'm thinking from Holland, through Germany, Austria into Italy..that'll be a 3000 Mile roundtrip. But I'll stay away from the German Autobahn.. because at 60Mph even the big rigs will be passing me.

great story, super pictures and a hell of a truck, great work!

That would be a great trip. I would love to see the pics from that.

My most recent trip was taken January 2nd because I needed a truck and this is really the only one I have. The roads were pretty clean and it was fairly warm (for us). These pics are in my Jimmy build thread too, but since this thread has been revived I may as well remind people its still a truck and should be used as one. Fully loaded and resting on the rear bump stops.

Probably about 1200 lbs in there...

I put on about 320 miles that day and had no issues. Didn't expect any but was a little concerned about my tires with that load on them.

I am already registered for the 2015 Hot Rod Power Tour and put in for enough vacation days to do the whole trip if I choose to do the long haul. That would be about 3000 miles for me round trip.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

I had a list of things that I found during the road trips that needed to be improved. The #1 item was the radiator. Its works fine unless I'm sitting in traffic for an hour, so its not something I knew was an issue until last years power tour. It was a used 4 core radiator when I installed it. I've been researching the options and settled on this one...

http://www.speedcooling.com/1967-197...r/prod_38.html

There are a few members here that have used them without problems. Its supposed to be a direct fit and looks like it really should be. All welded aluminum construction at a price only slightly higher than the plastic tank/aluminum core radiators.

Fit was a big concern for me since I custom built my fan shroud to fit the stock radiator. I'll know soon enough if it will work. I think I'm going to update my electric fan control also. Did my taxes last night and got a good return, and I found out this morning I'll get a bonus from work also, so I get to invest a little in my truck.

There are a few other things I'll be fixing later this spring too, but nothing major. Unless I find a sweet deal on some wheels and tires I like.

Thanks! If you're not using it, why have it?

My new radiator showed up 2 days after I ordered it. Looks great. The odd coloring on the side tank is just from it frosting up. It had sat outside several hours in single digit cold, then I brought it into the house and took pics before it even had a chance to warm up.

Now I just need to get time to work on it. I also talked to Kevin from http://www.bowtietruckstop.com/ and will be getting a new tach and turn signal switch. Neither of mine are not working well. Once I actually have my tax money in the bank I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get me some of these...

Then new tires this spring and some more road miles to test everything out and have it ready for power tour.

Any particular reason for going from the vintage hurricane wheels to the chromed 90's style camaro wheels. Going bigger or something?

Looking forward to seeing those wheels on your truck. Not a common wheel on our trucks. I like the old ones a whole lot, but those look like the will really stand out!
