Know exactly what you mean regarding both front and rear light recognition.

Cool. So one of the white lenses is the backup lights. Is the other a turn signal or just a reflector! Love that Caddy!

I guess, Welcome Aboard, and please take the time to check out some of the other builds, there are guys here with TONS more skills doing things far more imaginative and better engineered than my tinker toy here !! Quote:
The wells in those turn signal lanterns have lots of room to work with. *********************************************************************************** Now for some photos !!! Next step on my hood was to marry up the valence to the hood. I had long ago admired the filled seam look that others have done so decided I would try my hand at it too !! This is my d-side corner. Oddly both hoods, the donor GMC and my stock Chevy hoods had taken damage on this corner and no amount of massaging could get them to align up 100% (I had much better luck on the p-side) So this was as good as it was going to get: I used a welding rod as filler for the gap: This is after a lot of welding and grinding, shot with some filler primer and sanded down to ID the high-low/trouble spots. I am not 100% jazzed with the outcome, but I am happy I got it looking this good at least: Top shot of that corner::: More tomorrow...hopefully !! Rock on dudes

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Ok guys it is tomorrow, and here is more:
All the primary welding is done, and this is how the p-side looked after some filler primer and sanding to ID the trouble spots... In this photo you can see the "beak" look I was talking about earlier that I like so much about the GMC style hoods. Here is an edge-on of my fill job...not too shabby I guess eh? And just one for the glamor of it: Got a busy weekend with duty, and possibly skiing so it may be a few days before I get the filler and sanding photos up, and also the profile mod I did.... Thanks for looking everyone !!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
So I wanted to change the profile of my hood.
Not radically mind you, but enough to not be stock. The plan was to raise the center section of the hood (the contoured arrow area) a half inch, and the middle section of the hood a full inch at the body line. I got as far as raising the center section, and have paused as it did not turn out 100% the way I wanted. In typing this post just now, I realized how I should have done it, and may go ahead and pull the trigger on the middle section with this better plan in mind... Here is the hood with my landmarks drawn in, getting ready to cut: The cuts made and the fill pieces tack welded on: And the area after all the welding was done. In this photo you can begin to see what I am not exactly pleased with, the trailing end of this mod seems to slope up like an Evel Knievel ramp: This shows the slope better: I could learn to live with it since it is symmetrical and slopes evenly across, but I was wanting more of a straight line wedge look than the slope. I know now I should have used some half inch angle and welded it in from the inside of the hood, and filled the outside as needed.... Which is why I may yet pull the trigger on raising the middle section of my hood, using the angle iron idea. (and yes, the angle iron laying on the hood in the first picture is what gave me the idea of how this should have gone...in case you figured that out too. LoL ) One of the reasons I want to raise the middle section of the hood, is to be able to mount 350 emblems on it....

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
wonder if you can buy a standalone cowl hood scoop in metal for the sides, then graft your skin with the distinctive center peak to it?

Murph!
You are truly a glutton for punishment! To mess with the biggest panel on the truck is really aggressive. I admire your determination, but dude, you're kinda insane!!!
