I can't tell where it went to. Engine came like that. And yes you are right about the leveler hitting the fire wall. But engine is in. Now trying to figure out how to use the flare tool to connect the tank lines to the inline pump.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

thanks just checked them out,, and its there is something that got me lost,:

You may be concerned about the LSx "variable displacement" compressor being
compatible with your earlier factory AC system or with an aftermarket system.

I have no idea what that is.. I saw the bracket prices on the second option there and but I guess I cant use the original compressor? any of you used the original with out the stand mod?

You can use the original compressor with the third option. That is, as long as it is the very short compressor like shown on their web page. That is what mine had, but I sold it. I was going to use option #2, the Kwik Perf brackets, but it's looking like I will use the 5.3's compressor.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I had a date with the plasma cutter this morning, and got the trailing arm crossmember, upper shock mount crossmember, and the left side trailing arm mount off of my 68 frame.

I am putting some parts up on Craigslist now too. Need to get some $$$ to buy a Super Track Bar kit from ECE. Any locals need a pair of front doors, or a pair of Burb rear (2nd row) doors? Hood? L/F fender?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Funny you ask!!

The guy that will be doing the dyno tune ribbed me about not having the PCM mounted to anything, so I made a mount for it today. It holds it tight enough to not need a strap of any kind, and there are 7 drain holes in the bottom so it won't hold anything. I will probably pull it once every couple years or so to keep it really clean.

Lots of pics to follow:

probably a hydroboost pump. a pressure line and 2 returns. You can just cap 1 off.

Hydro-boost Pump has 1 Pressure Line and 2 Return Lines.

Bob, that looks great! But I worry about you doing bigger fab work, you may not have enough clamps.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I'm new to this forum, but have been very impressed with the efforts of everyone performing an LS swap into their trucks. I too am swapping a 5.3L into my son's 85 Chevy 4 X 4 Stepside. We actually met a gentleman who lost interest in swapping the LS into his Jeep and traded us for the 305 that was in my son's truck, straight across. We have the engine in the truck, and it looks great. Question is what lower radiator hose you all have been using for the conversion. Autozone has been very tolerant of me running back and forth trying to get a hose that fits, and I've combed thru all 75 pages of posts, but haven't seen (Or missed it) any info on the lower radiator hose. We are running the factory style 4 core, non-diesel radiator. Thanks for any info.

Yeah I recall him saying a while back though. "I'm not going any lower than what I am now. Maybe just another inch." That's how it all starts man. I think it will look killer like the avatar with the LS in it.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

It won't be going any lower than what it is right now for a while. I can't, unless I want to lower the depth of my oil pan! Maybe another inch in the front, but that's all! I do plan on swapping the rear suspension out for the trailing arms in the next couple of months. The rear ride height will stay the same for now.

I am going to get the LH8 oil pan kit though and stick it up in the shop attic. It's a good price right now and will only go higher. I plan on buying a new truck next fall (2005-2007 range), and after that I will start back hard core on Fred. Plans for then are:

* ext paint, darker red
* new carpet, paint the int, maybe newer seats, new glass and tint
* rebuild the front suspension
* spindles and springs, and probably lowering springs for the rear
* wheels and tires. Most likely 17" TT2's
* new exhaust w/Magnaflows

I want the ride height to be were there is about 0" to 1" of gap from the top of the tire to the top of the wheel well.

And if the engine is out to R&R the pan, may as well do a cam, head and converter swap. That's a maybe, but always a possibility. I do also miss my old Whipple blower.....

Looks sick in the avatar Bob. I think buying the LH8 oil pan kit now is a good idea. Like you said, once people start buying them up,price will jump drastically. Cant wait to hear the results from the dyno tune.

Thanks Justin!

Jesse's tunes are done on his license that he paid for. So when I get the dyno tune done, I will be buying a new license as part of the cost to do it.

Nice PCM box there Bob. I forgot to ask you sir, Did Jessie at W4M Perform lock the tune on the computer? I take it he didn't since your having it Dyno- Tuned.

I'm jealous of Fred, Really nice ShoeBox!
