Put my bed back on by myself. Well, the dog tried to help. Made a shifter knob.

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave do you have a switch for each bag? If you do you don't need a sway bar.

Re: Daverods project 66
I got the accuair for my 66. I was thinking about the sway bar for my 64. It just has jeep springs for now. If I put bags on my 64 no compressor do you think I would need a rear sway bar?

Re: Daverods project 66
I Like the shifter . What happened to the shingle hatchet you had for a while as a shifter???
I built a Shifter knob from a brass door knob once , Poured it full of lead and then drilled and tapped it . .. Worked good and looked cool but it was always too darn COLD in the winter when you had to shift ! I took it off and went to a 8-Ball The plastic felt warmer.. ![]()

Re: Daverods project 66
hope everyone has a great new year .
about the shifterknob if it gets too cold to touch maibe its an idea to dip it in bedliner , get it covered in rubber at least . if you dip it in red/chevy orange and detail the machined surfaces of the cam in silver (or silver and detailing the low bits in red so it dont rub off ) people can still see wat it is , never seen a shifter like it and i like the idea

Re: Daverods project 66
Got sick of sanding on my truck. Thought I would change out my upper and lower ball joints. One was bad, I think that is what was causing my high speed wobble.

Re: Daverods project 66
he does have a point , diskbrakes would improve the braking a lot , not sure anymore but i think you need to change the mastercylinder too or the calipers wont loosen again after braking , ask someone who done that more recently

Re: Daverods project 66
it shouldnt ruin the balljoints to have to loosen them again
just loosen the nut and use a tire iron or small crowbar put tension on the arm away from the spindle and hit the side of the spindle holding the balljoint with a hammer , the shock is enough to pop it (dont hit the baljoints on the loosened nut or you ruin the treads keep the nut on so you dont hit youreself in the face when it pops off) there is a change you damage the rubber dustcaps on those balljoints pinching them with the crowbar but with this way there's actually less chance you ruin them compared to a balljoint puller , but i understood you can get new covers to replace them for verry little cash

Re: Daverods project 66
A disk brake setup yanked from a 79 Chevy truck set me back $150 total and it already had a recent brake job.
I used a non-power master cylinder and the original proportioning valve for the truck and it works great. Search CraigsList and you could find a donor truck for all you suspension and braking needs for that same $600 you would pay for the drop stuff.... I saw drop spindles on C/L for $185. Patience and resourcefulness pays off big when you dig for deals and your not in a rush to "just get it going"...
