Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I had bad throttle plates on my 2 barrel (stuck open a little), i took off the intake and carb today to replace with a 4 barrel set up since the two barrel was toast. Anyway, i got to the back of the motor and final got the casting number. I was told it was a 305 when i bought it, turns out its a 350! Score! It was a nice surprise for the day. the casting number is 3970014 and the date code is E374,I think the seven may actually be a ONE, as there are not 37 days in the month.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I got the 66 fired up today. Was nice to hear is rumble through the open headers. Now I just have to get the tranny all buttoned up. I did take a short video of it but have to upload it. Now I just have to figure out how..

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
worked on a tune up of the 63... the distributor has had ductape on it since I got it... it ran ok and I had other things going...I looked into it today, and the tape was holding the cap onone screw missing, and on the other side a wood screw-haha, you gotta love farm trucks!
so the rotor was tearing the sh*t out of the cap since itwas just loose on there! new cap rotor, and wires made it run tons better, tomorrow I chase that pesky acellerator pump, and time it, and it might run like new!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Replaced the ignition switch and the starter solenoid trying to sort out my starting problems only to discover the wire plug next to the heater box was unplugged the whole time!
I thought about taking both parts back but I didn't feel like uninstalling them plus they were cheap and they'll probably last another 43 years anyway. Last edited by rendus; 06-21-2010 at 08:57 PM. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Spent some time getting the frame stripped clean of years of grime and oil leaks. Used engine brite, super clean, wire brush, putty knife and finished it with a wire brush wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder. I'm going to wipe it down with acetone and prime and paint it today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thanks to Bob at Accessoryland, a pair of new old stock inside spotlight brackets (8205 & 8206RH) arrived today. In addition to the mint condition brackets, even the 1960 era slot head mounting screws were included. After decades in wax paper bags, the brackets are now permanent features in my cab.
