Those are some nice looking headers. I'd just clearance the frame a little.

Just curious, why don't you put a big block in your truck?

Oh believe me I wanted too. But, I had this 383 on the stand for 8-9 years so I couldn't justify not using it.

My frame isn't finished yet. I'll take a crack at them if you don't use em'. What year block do you have?

Those are nice headers. I would trim the frame you can always touch it up. My headers have a lot of room.

I got the Lt side in by trimming the frame and collector. Read on

In hindsight I should have let you see what you could do, but I got in to deep and had to keep going.

Thanks Scott. I'm at one of those times when I wonder if it will ever be on the street again.

I have spent the last 2 nights grinding, installing, marking, removing repeat that about 20 times. I wanted to keep the grinding to a minimum. Thats why I took a little at a time.

I would not suggest anyone using these headers on their 63-66 trucks. I'm not very happy with the left side. I started by trimming the upper part of the rail. Then noticed the collector was hitting the lower part of the rail. I should have stopped there, but NO I didn't. I figured a little more, boy was I wrong. That's what I get for trying to save a buck. It usually cost more in the long run.

I know this is a duplicate pic, but I'm using it for comparision from LT to RT. If the pipes would have started to turn like the RT side the LT side would have fit great. Notice the distance from the head before the Lt tubes start to bend. There is about an inch difference. You can see the upper part of the rail to header clearance now on the LT side. That's the way it is now. I still need to remove one more time and touch up the rail and hopefully reinstall for the final time.





Here is the collector on the LT side. The RT side doesn't hit.



This is the notch I trimmed in the collector. As soon as I hit the flange of the tube I quit.

Man that sucks you had a trim a lot off the frame. I wonder if it would have been easier to cut the headers at the flange and suck it in some!

It crossed my mind, but then I 'd have to get them recoated. I did think of dimpling the tubes like Dennis had mentioned, but the main issue was the collector. This was not one of my better decisions by using these. Live and learn.

It looks a little close to the frame. Will it hit when the engine torques? Clean job though. Looks good.

Looks good. Any reason you went w/a mid length? I had the flow techs on my 98. Those look a little better crafted and maybe the coating wont come off like the holley's.

Like Strodder said, have you taken into account the engine torque? It looks like the first time you hit hit the gas, the left side collector and right side header tubes are going to hit their respective frame rails. Remember, 383s like to twist on those motor mounts.

I wanted the shorty to clean up the bottom. I don't like seeing collectors hanging down. Thanks for the comment. I don't feel like I'm a hero just a Dumb A$$ right now. I went out to the shop tonight and got disgusted with what I did to my frame. I'm $hit canning this idea and licking my wounds and get some headers that fit.

Hey Alan you might want to try the ones I have, Hooker 2466HKR, These are painted. But they do have ceramic coated also. 2466-1HKR. They fit really nice. I'll get a pic up tomorrow of mine on the motor and frame

That's too bad Allan. Those were nice headers. I don't think the frame looks that bad. Do you think you weakened it by notching it? If so just brace it with a "L" angle steel, drill it, paint it and bolt it in top & side of frame. Just a brain fart, but it might work.

Lesson learned,
1. fabricate
2. assemble complete vehicle
3. fix mistakes
4. disassemble completely
5. then paint
6. final assembly
