Re: My 52 GMC Build
love the mercedes diesel, I love weirdo swaps like that. I bought a 300SD with that engine, 5 cylinder turbo diesel. it was a locomotive on the highway just pulled and pulled but the turbo lag meant when you were pulling from a side street to a busy street you better plan very carefully, 0-20 takes longer than 20-100!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
very cool. I watched a few episodes of a tv show called cuban rides or something. it was basically a hotrod type show of the cubans getting their rides ready. insane what they got to deal with. like even welding gas there is hard to come by. I luv the time warp and I hope it stays that way to some degree. Would suck to see them get flooded with new cars and forget about the old ones.

99toLife,
I've seen some show Cuban chrome or something. It was awesome to see how they hunt down parts and make whatever they have work, MBZ in a chevy, whatever. Very resourceful

Very cool! I could definitely fit in down there I guess. Nice vacation. I saw the cuban chrome show too and had the same thoughts. They really have to be resourceful down there.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
This just goes to show the great 'human' ingenuity that motor heads have in getting stuff together no matter what country, color, or creed we come from.
The mind is a wonderful thing when it comes to customizing! Great story man and great pics too, thanks for sharing!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Well not much has been happening with my truck, due to the fact that it is in storage and I can't even go say hi lol. But that doesn't mean I'm not planning and buying parts. On our October trip I blew a HID head light, so instead of just replacing I'm upgrading to LED. About the same price as the cheap HID kit but modern and less power. I installed the same bulbs in my Jeep and they work great.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I have a different brand, but same general style LED bulb in my 72 and love them. I absolutely hate every HID kit I have put in my vehicles and have been swapping over to the LED's with no problems at all. And going this route it's a lot cheaper than the high dollar LED lamp assembly.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Step one: Mount new LED bulb in new headlight housing of your choice.
Step two: Unplug your sealed beem. Step three: Plug in the H4 LED bulb. Step four: Crack open a beer. The 7" sealed beam lights use a H4 plug and this LED bulb does too. It's just plug and play.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
On a air compressor topic. I mounted a York style AC compressor on my Jeep to use for OBA. I took the top end apart to inspect and clean and took some pic's. Thought someone might want to see.
The first pic shows the 2 pistons they are about 1.75" in Dia. There are 3 different stroke lengths avalable I have the long stroke about 2" This is the plate above the pistons that holds the reed valves. It would have worked the way it was (dirty) The ring of circles is the inlet and the circular slot is compression. The large wagon wheel is the intake reed valve and the smaller wagon wheel is the compression. The other one by the nut is a keeper. Everything is all cleaned up ready to go back together the head has a steel filter sock on the intake. I drained the oil and put compressor oil back in.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
i have had electric compressors and i have had engine driven compressors and i will only ever have engine driven from now on. even with a tank leak overnight its only ~20 seconds before you can leave.
