In 72 I bought an orange and white Cheyenne new, so this one caught my eye. I wouldn't buy it, but it's kind of cool. Hendrick Chevrolet brought this one down. They also gave away an LS2 crate engine delivered to your door (Not my door unfortunately.).

Those pictures don't do that crew cab justice.

On the way up We were past Oceola Cheese Company before I noticed it so decided we would stop on the way back, but that didn't work because on the way back I just wanted to get home.

I like the look. Other people like the look. So why did they stop the look? If I want a classic truck I'll buy a classic truck, but if I need a new truck I'd like it to have classic qualities. That's how I was thinking when I ordered the '92 K3500. What bugs me with these 1500s is they used 10 emblems. Truck would be just as cool without the throw-back emblems from 71/72 and sticker from late-70s. And something about Vette rallyes on a 4wd truck... I dunno.

My favorite is the Bronze & White K/10 in #1399

It is beautiful. He said it was medium blue. I had a big block 71 Cheyenne that listed it as Hawaian Blue on the SPID.

Making that Sledsel emblem was a great idea. I bet he was looking at it and suddenly it hit him. I bought a '78 shortbed once that had a Harley Davidson sticker on the back window, just the letters. I didn't have a bike at that time so was contemplating taking it off until I was looking at it and I realized all the letters for Silverado were in there. Pretty amazing all those letters are in there. I removed that sticker, bought another, and created the silverado sticker. Yep, no capital S

That's some great stuff there. Wew, asbestos siding. Big sales pitch for that stuff was "It will outlive you" . Nah, it's safe and stable sitting there on the house. But cutting was not too good...although it's nly like 3% asbestos.

My dad's father I never met and my mom's died when I was maybe 6. So I missed out on the grandfather experience. I really like that old fellers, though. Now they are my dad's (Rest his soul) age.

Today I did a job for a 93 year old feller. He still drives and he brought the ladder up onto the deck for me to use. I think he would have climbed it and done the work if the family hadn't told him to stick to the ground (good idea). He is sharp as a tack and I enjoy my time talking with him. I just want to kid with him all the time to get him going. What's neat is I'm working on a cabin on the water that his wife's family, then he, has owned since 1927. Very neat rustic place you drove the Model T down for the weekend. There was a train that ran from Baltimore to Annapolis that I'm sure was a popu;ar way still to get down there.

Then tomorrow I'm meeting Roy, a 79 year old feller from the Shenandoah Valley (Fort Valley within, actually). He's buying a power steering box, pump, and hoses to put on his '61 Apache. I can't wait to meet him. He says he's been fooling with these trucks for 60 years.

I did some work for a guy that was probably in his mid 80s about a year ago. His wife had passed a little while before I met him. She was bedridden the last 11 years of her life. He took care of her by himself. One of the kindest men I’ve ever met. He felt like he didn’t do enough. He pointed out paintings she did that were hanging on the walls. He was very proud of her.
I typically just focus on my job without a whole lot of small talk. I’m mostly just thinking about where I want to move the furniture and where I’ll place the seams in the carpet. Do I need to pull the doors. Basically how to stage everything.
But this gentleman wanted to talk, so I slowed down and listen. We talked about his wife. He had the same job 50 or 60 years and then we talked about old cars and trucks. He was a bit of an old car guy. Well he had left me alone for a minute and then calls for me to come watch this car show that was on the tv. I don’t remember what show it was. I haven’t had a tv for nearly 12 years or so. But that day I sat down for 20 minutes and watched tv with him. Then went back to work to finish installing his carpet. In my estimation he was a honest, caring and decent man.

The old folk are true treasures. I try to always take time for them. They have all that life experience behind them and often no one to talk about it with. Once you get too old to get about and do much of anything, your memories become your best possession. Great to pull things up in your own mind, but a shame not to be able to share. One thing I like is they are done being in a hurry like most everyone else. I try to live by a more controlled pace, but can't wait for the day it all slows down. I'll be busy doing all the things I never had time for and doing them at my own pace.

My dad was a WWII veteran. He had five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Not many men lived through five campaigns. He said seventeen men out of his entire company that landed on D-Day lived to come home.

He worked hard until he couldn't, and his integrity came before anything else. He always gave the customer more than they had bargained for, and people that didn't operate that way rubbed him the wrong way.


He passed July 13 six years ago. When they told him he had a few days left, he never showed any fear or remorse, he just wanted us to promise we would take care of Granny.
