Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Finally chose an exhaust, went with the Borla S-type and all I have to say is it sounds awesome. Definitely happy with my choice. Has a nice rumble when cruising but screams when you get on it. Was exactly what I was looking for. Bought it from streetsideauto.com and with there 10% off borla coupon code they are running, I got it for less than a $1,000.

Looks good. I am close to coming home from this deployment and about to spend a bit of cash on my '09 and my '71. I'm going to do a 3.5" suspension lift and 1.25" body lift, 20" wheels w/ big a$$ tires, fender flares, bumper, and well you know build my redneck 4x4 since I need to fit in here in NC.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

The new exhaust looks good.

I went and test drove a '14 and it's got so many features I didn't even know I needed. Haha. It didn't come home with me. Waiting to see that the 3/4 tons look like next year.

The new house looks good too.

What's next for the new truck?

Thanks Nate, yeah the 14's are really nice but was a little out of my price range. I'm really happy with my 13. The next thing I want to do is add some step bars, my wife is 5'1" and is having a good time getting in and out After that I will be done with it for a while.

Thanks for coming along for the ride and I appreciate all the compliments. Haven't had any time for the 68 since we got into the new house, seems like every weekend I have a project to do the house didn't need anything, just changing some things to match our style more. Once everything calms down in a few weeks I hope to get my 68 moved from my brothers to my house and get working on her again. I definitely miss it and it's lighting a fire under my ass to get it done finally.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

So I got some new parts in the mail, this time for my 68 I've been wanting to upgrade the rear brakes to disc for some time now an finally decided to go with the Wilwood D154 with the intergrated parking brake. I know the Wilwood rear doesn't match the McGaughey front kit I have but eventually it will. Someday I plan on upgrading the front to a 6 piston 13" Wilwood kit.

I wanted something with a parking brake and I liked the fact that it uses a 2 piston caliper. I also like that it uses the lokar emergency brake cables and I can ditch the factory stuff. I didn't go with the matching McGaughey rear kit because I don't like the design of it or the fact that I would have had to machine my axles for it to fit. I feel this is something they should have figured out by now. Plus like I said I do plan on upgrading the front to Wilwoods in the future. I plan to finally get working on her again this weekend as I have a lot to do before I can move it from my brothers garage to mine.

Not yet I will be running the front McGaugheys kit for a while as the Wilwood kit is $$$$. Probably will be well after the truck is on the road. I wanted to add rear discs and well now seemed like the perfect time while the truck is still in pieces so I can do my brakes lines.

Very nice brake upgrade for the rear. That looks like a great setup, dig the integrated parking brake. Just plain smart engineering. Maybe one of these days.....

Thanks guys, I plan on pulling my front calipers off so I can paint them Red to match the rear. I really liked the integrated parking brake as I'm pretty sure that is the same setup they use on Corvettes. I have been checking out this rear brake kit for a while and just decided it was time to stop looking at it and just get it.

Those look great!

That was my issue with the Mcgaughey brakes too. If I'm paying that much for brakes it should be a bolt affair.

Those rear brakes look awesome! Where'd you get them from? Did they come with the brake cables, or are those separate?

Yeah I have also read where some people had problems trying to find the correct intermediate cable to hook up the emergency brake. I just didn't want to deal with any issues. Plus I think the Wilwood kit looks better.

They were $760.00 from Summit racing

Thanks I bought them from Summit Racing cause I had some gift cards to use, if not I would have ordered them from Travis at AZProperformance, he is a vendor on here and does a great job taking care of his customers. The brake cables are separate, they use the lokar cables which I like better cause I think they are a cleaner looking install over the factory ones.

I have the same kit in black... I'll be interested in how you route the cable(s) if you get to the install before I do. I'll share as well if I get to it first.

I'm sure you will probably get to the install well before I do lol. I'll be interested to see how it works out for you.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Finally got back to working on the truck today. Did some work on the front windshield channel, was rust through on all 4 corners in the seems. A couple months ago my brother had welded it up and finally today I cleaned up all the welds and shot some primer on it to keep it from rusting. My brother also welded up a couple spots on the firewall where I had some holes. As long as everything goes as planned, next weekend the cab will be going back on the frame so I can move it to my garage.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Still have to bodywork everything but I'm concerned with getting the truck together and getting it moved to my garage. Then I will blow it back apart and finish the bodywork and paint it. Also found another treat, another rust spot I never saw before. This time it's by the driver side visor just above the windshield. I swear all I do is find and fix rust.
