Runs drives and sounds like a new truck. I have been epoxy primering all my parts. These I will paint with a semigloss single stage enamel. That is if I can get one that I like. If not I will use black base coat and a flattened clear. I'm sure a spray can would be sufficient though. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
How about the flat black that STP67-72 and n2billet use? It's Medallion Hot Rod Black made by Rubber Seal and every truck they have used it on looks amazing.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Those are some of the first parts I sprayed. I went down to the Napa Paint store and got some "basic" reduced gloss black, single stage urethane. I only bought small amounts at a time but later figgerd it was about $400 a gallon! YIKES! That was on top of the pricey epoxy primer too. Since then I've found Van Sickle at our local tractor supply / buckaroo feed store. More like $10/qt plus some basic naptha thinner. They offer a "hardener" too, which about doubles the price but it's still a bargain. From what I can tell it's a pretty sturdy finish, perfect I think for "chassis black". I'm glad I used the spendy urethane for my wheels and rad support I guess but I'll use the tractor paint for stuff like that from here on out.
You're getting close man! I'm red with envy over here.

Right now, my plan is to get all the bare metal parts epoxy primered. That will give me some time to purchase the paint. I really like the idea of a single stage 2k product. Thanks Quote:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I epoxy primered all the bare blasted parts then I ended up going with the Medallion Hot rod black that Buck recommended above.
I really like the way it sprays and it has a nice finish. I will more than likely use it for all my under hood panels too. Sorry for the crappy pics, I only had my cell camera. You get the picture I like it More easy work updates soon then Back to dreaded body work. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Nice work Mike, where did you pick the Medallion Hot Rod Black up at and what did it cost you if you don't mind me asking.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Everything looks great Mike.. Love the Hot Rod black from Medallion, I might have to pick some of that up myself... Also nice job on the Aluminum welding.. I need to get the gun/gas for my setup. It's on my list of things I want.
Great job, looking good! |

30 pages down and 30 to go. Great work on the chassis. I'm to the point where you're on the 14th cab I believe . I'll try to get caught up in the next day or so

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks Steve. I like it too, I wish it was just a little bit more shiny but I think it will work better than trying to match clear coats with a flattening agent.
thanks Scott Quote:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I got caught up this morning and truly impressive is all I can say. I wish I had some of the skills you have. Seeing your chassis has been a bad influence. I'll be picking up a bare frame in the near future for either a future project or redo mine the right way like yours

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks for the info Mike, I figured you would have to order from them direct. I searched around and didn't find anybody that sold it.

No problem. I looked all over for another place to buy it too. No luck. After I priced the basecoat, clear and flattening agent it seems to be a better deal. |

I wanted to use ls1 fans but still haven't made my mind up on what I'll do it. The bracket you built looks nice. Can't wait to see it installed

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Mike, nice job on the fan bracket and install. I'd like to run a similar setup on my truck.
