Question Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Pulled the cluster out to see what happened to the tach.

Stud is broke off inside of it. I will have to call Manes in the morning to see if they will warranty it. It's less than a year old.
It just spins around it's not attached to anything. I can pull it up but not out.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Did you put bias or radials on her. I'm going with radials on the 68 stepper with the original rims .

Why only for shows?

They are radials. I tried to pick some that at least looked old school. They are Cooper Discoverer HT3 Radial Tubeless. I was told it was fine to use a tube with them.

Only for shows mostly because everyone keeps telling me they are dangerous even though they all came with them back in the day. I know they are dangerous to mount, but I think once they are on they are ok. But also to keep them in good shape and since I have a nice set of wheels with brand new tires on them and I like to drive the truck whenever I can, I will use those for regular duty. It's a lot easier to get them mounted than the originals. I am getting old so the originals with the new tires should outlast me. The only real issue I had is that I ordered the tubes from a local shop that assured me that the valve stems are bendable and should fit fine when in fact they are too short. I had to put extensions in them with a piece of fuel line to protect them from the side of the rim. Minor issue really.

2 piece splits are dangerous ours are the retainer ring type totally safe after mounting. Only problem with tube type tires they go flat fast no such thing as a slow leak. Mine has tires from 1987 on it . I dont drive it but they are are still in good shape

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Put the new cab mounts in haven't torqued them yet but the cab as of now is 1/4 inch higher off the frame. May come down a bit when I put the torque wrench on it.

Lowered the bench seat 2 inches with Full Custom Fab brackets, and wired up my audio system (Kenwood h/u and Infinity 4" and 6.5" speakers) from scratch.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Got all the parking brake hardware reinstalled and adjusted. Started installing my brake lines. Got the ones that run along the differential, rear flex line, and the long one from the flex line to the front installed. Now gotta tackle getting everything ran along the front crossmember and up to the master cylinder.

Wife is going out of town with her sister this Friday and Saturday so I predict some serious shop time in my future.

Raining and cold . But my new cab bushings came for the stepside so now I can start fitment of the nose. Went with regular rubber.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Started installing a Counterpart tach kit. It definitely doesn't fit like OEM, but it's good enough for my truck. I'll be working on the wiring tonight. Sprayed my old faded gauge needles with fluorescent red-orange Rustoleum inverted marking paint. It is flat when it dries, and it matches the original color quite well.

Got my tach wired up. Ran the brown wire through an empty slot in the firewall bulkhead connector and wrapped it inside the engine harness.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

1> Start a preliminary layout of the cab wiring harness. Try to sort out which wiring I will use and which I won't. Might try and repurpose some of the extra ones. Also, I added wiring for control of the passenger pw and pl.

2> Get my nerve up to put the cab on the chassis. (I've been stalling saying I needed to have the exhaust in first. Then it was to have the wiring harness laid out. Both are not complete)
