Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

It looks really close to original. I understand wanting one piece, and I hope the contact cement works.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Why not get the tube of glue they offer at the bottom of the page the mat is on? it is $39 but at least you would be sure it would work.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

If you got the 2 gallon pail you could just pour it in, let it self level and put the mat down.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

getting ready to bleed the brakes...since I'm a one man operation it's a near impossibility to do without mech help..I've had a mityvac for several yrs..and it really sucked...very hard to keep air out of it..
I had seen on TV where they had a pump that hooks to the master cylinder...it had a hand pump like a garden sprayer, but no cap assortment....I was searching for those when I ran across this ...its pressured up with a air hose..and comes with every kind of cap imaginable...it was only a few dollars more..so I sprung for this..will give it a try this weekend and see how it works...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Richard...the sealer in the tube isnt glue according to them..
Heres what they sent me..
Thank you for your inquiry. We recommend using a polyurethane based adhesive on our products. The smallest we offer is two gallons to cover 120 square feet which is probably a lot more than you need but polyurethane is what we recommend....

I tried some 3M847 adhesive last night... just checked it...it didnt hold either..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I took a week or so off to get caught up on non-truck stuff that i been letting pile up on me.
Got most of it done and now I forgot where I was..
One thing that bothered me was on my hydroboost lines was the ol ribbed plastic loom crap..
For some reason to me the stuff looks outta place on old trucks...I was just gonna leave it off and not use anything on the hoses..but while i was working on my tractor it dawned on me the hydraulic hoses have a sheath over them..so some quick measuring and a Ebay search and I had a piece to go over all 3 hose
I like it much better than the plastic crap..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Also after several delays in shipping (thanks corona)..
the relays finally showed up..
These are for the homade rear blinker setup ill have to do for the rear blinkers..
on the IH , blinkers were a option..the column is setup for blinkers but that's it..no hardware..out side of adding another set of lights to the rear there was no way to cancel the brake light so it would blink..on the front marker lights I changed out the 1156 bulb sockets to a 1157, so that solved the fronts..so to make the rear brake lights blink I'm gonna use a normally closed relay in each brake light wire..so when the front blinks, it will fire the relay momentarily to make the rear blink..only downside is the front and rears will blink alternately..but that's no big deal...
Still waiting on the floormat glue..(thanks again corona)...shipping delayed on it as well

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Also I didn't get the brake bleeding done yet..I wasnt real thrilled with the bleeder lid that's for the reservoir
It's very flimsy and very difficult to get it to seal off without leaking...
So
I made me one from 1/4" aluminum plate..a c-clamp to hold it down..and I'm in business...I'll l have to wait a day or so to try out but I think itll work..
Our temps have been dropping along with humidity so hopefully I can get the painting finished soon...
But we got a hurricane headed some what for us, so I may wait it out...

It's coming together. I hope the glue gets found and you can only see one end of the truck at a time. Who's gonna noticem them blinking differently.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Coming along nicely! I don’t envy your humidity, but heck we had a random blast of snow last week. Crazy, but now it’s in the 80s and dry again.
You will really like that pressure pot for bleeding brakes. We had something similar at the Benz dealer. They work so well that I never had to bench bleed anything using one. Pressure bleeding is the only way to go.

Thanks Dale...you wont be able to see front and back at the same time..unless you see a reflection..
I think even some square bodys had alternating blinkers on the front and the front fender

Thanks Kirk...these little things just seem to drag out..

Thanks Clay...I'm really hoping the pressure bleeder works out...itll save me alot of hassle
A IH guy I know up around the San Juan's told me he got about 5-6" of snow...and I think he got snow
in June also..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

So my floormat glue finally showed up...so I was gonna do a test piece, and thought I'd give reading the directions a shot...well it says that once you punch the end of the tube, the tube has a 24hr shelf life..
Well that sucks...I'm not quite ready to be gluing floormat, so I guess itll have to wait...

Was gonna get started on bleeding the brakes..poured some fluid in the reservoir and about a minute later I had fluid dripping on the ground...what the heck...even though I thought I had all the fittings tight, i didnt..
Had a loose fitting on the splitter T for the front...it was snug, just not tight..got that fixed...turned around and I see another drip..this one is a doozy..I had previously reinforced the front frame rails and boxed them in..not realizing I had a union behind the plate...yep its loose..and no way to get to it...so it's off to town for another piece of tubing and some unions...I'll reflare the tubing and move the unions out to where I can get at em..just more delays...

It is progress zepp...luckily I remembered I had a extra stick of 1/4" brake line leftover and I had a spare coupler and some nuts, so I saved a trip to town...already got it fixed, so I'll try the bleeding tomorrow..
