Well, the teardown has started. Was able to get in a couple hours today. Got the electrical disconnected to the headlights and turnsignals, removed them along with the front bumper, horn, the grill and the radiator hood latch panel. Will see if I can get some more done this week. Here's a few pics...Jim

Looks good. One of those 1 step forward and 2 steps back kind of projects...It will look like new again before you know it.

Lookin good man. Those rods that tie the core support to the lower grill, are they stock? My 49 didn’t have those and my 54 front end (changeover due to 54 cab) doesn’t have it either. Although it sure would firm things up.

Yes, they are stock and they help lift up the lower panel, that is attached to grill...Jim

Was finally able to get back into the shop on Saturday for about 3 hrs. I removed running boards, small aprons, both front fenders and drivers inner fender.

Back to the shop in the afternoon on Sunday.

Pic 1 show how dirt and grime built up over the last few years.

Pic 2 About an hour later, using Windex and lots of paper towels, in looks good again.

Pic 3 Hard to see but, when I had the accident the deer also hit the drivers side door, but heres the crack in the paint.

Pic 4 Here's the fenders all mounted to my fender horses, for work, etc.

After supper I went back to the shop and removed the interior door panels, disconnected the wires to the power windows, etc.

Tomorrow I will get Mark to help me remove the doors. I didn't want to just paint the parts that needed painting, just in case the paint isn't and exact match. So my plan is to paint both doors and from the cowl forward, including the hood. That way it should look good.

I plan on removing 90% of the paint from painted parts, so that way all the panels will have about the same thickness of paint.

Will keep you update as I go along...Jim

Well I got started on removing paint today. It's going to be slow going, but I think it is worth it. I'm sanding with 320 grit wet paper, then using the palm sander with 1200 grit wet paper, then repeating until I'm happy. I'm using lots of pressure with both the hand sanding and the sander. Here's a few pics...Jim

Pic 3 Here is a small section I did with 320 grit, to see how it worked.
Pic 4 This is what I would like to see all over the hood, almost breaking thru to primer.

looks good Jim. ..curious though...why the jump from 320 to 1200 paper...i would have thought 1200 would be to fine...but I'm not a real painter either..
