ah man, I don't miss this stage of the engine you are at. Brake cleaner really works wonders. I use the air hose alot too. I also used a rosebud on a propane tank, would heat the block up, seemed to help. Just gotta keep going back and forth with "cleaners/degreasers" then a brake cleaner and heat and air. Then back and forth. Wire brush, flathead screwdriver and a mix of other tools like your dremel will def help. Yours looks like alot of hours already went into it or it was just a pretty decent start. Mine had clumps of grease all over it. I shoulda got a better candidate.

Mark, that engine looks really good! Is that the one that went in the Dodge?

99, you are right, there are several hours invested in the engine cleaning so far. Wouldn't it be nice to start with a clean new piece?

Those are from Wegner Automotive in Wisconsin. http://www.wegnerautomotive.com

They don't have much content on their website so check out their FB page for pictures.

They build really nice components and accessory drives.

doug, for sure safety first. I'v read years ago, never clean any metal with brake clean and then weld it.

the wegner stuff looks nice, wish they had a better website. I can't believe the prices these companies charge for LS brackets. I need to get an AC compressor bracket. The
custom serp setup on that pic is really nice. Id like to do away with the factory alt bracket but, its just not in the budget.

Rick, I am guessing pretty comparable. These guys have some custom options that are interesting.

I wish they had a better website too. Prices are over the top everywhere...so I am still considering a number of accessory bracket options. Hoping I can make the truck set up look good and fit. I don't want to cut the inner fenders.

Yes Doug I wish you would figure out what accessory drive we need to run...I'm just about to mount my front fenders to see what trimming I need to do for the steering linkage.

There is chlorinated and non-chlorinated brake clean. Use the non-chlorinated stuff if your going to do any welding. It's the only kind I use and make sure it is dry. The Wegner web sight is being re done

Hey Guy's as far as the component brackets go you can go with the Allen Grove Components brackets. This is is the same setup I used on Blakes truck.

Pic #1. This is the high mount setup (truck 5.3) new tensioner and belt inc. $240.00

Pic #2. All mounted to the motor,fairly clean setup.

Pic #3. The dimensions of the kit Only 17" from center of crank pully.

Pic #4. This is the low mount for the (truck 5.3) $175.00

Pic #5. The dimensions are pretty tight to the block providing you have room between the block and your frame this might be a good option.

That being said I used the stock alt bracket from the 5.3 and cleaned it up real nice and painted it black to match the engine as well as the new A/C bracket and they disappear.
I just bought the high mount for John's 49 Dodge as well for his A/C install.
This a cheap alt. to having to spend a boat load on a serp. setup!

Doug,to answer your question this is the motor that is going in the 38 chevy for troy. It does not have power steering so the pump was removed from the bracket and the bracket will be shaved to make it more streamlined.

Hey Marc...almost there. Some time ago in this ginormous build thread I placed pics with width measurements to the inner fenders. I recall the truck alternator and power steering will clear on left side. Right side with AC is more of a problem. Holley has a top mount with a peanut compressor that might clear. Not sure what a peanut compressor is nor if it will work for the Burb. Iceburgh tried the Alan Grove for AC down low and it wouldn't fit. He went with Visual Impact System front runner and they run about $1,900 ish. I had concerns since they don't use an idler. They don't have one in black and that is what I want.

Before you do your inner fenders, check out Oldman3 inners. Very nice fab.

Thanks Lower, good info on the brake clean. Yeah, their website has been under construction since I stumbled across them on a Kwhizz build on LS1Tech. They seem to be involved in a number of high end builds, including Ring Brothers.

What would really help the under hood looks department would be if Kees could work his artistry on this big blank firewall. Don't know if you've seen his work...he is very talented. Anyway, it would be freaking awesome if he did.

Burb was just sitting in the shop tonight waiting on me to show up.

That intake is going to look great in your suburban. it will soak up some of the excess engine bay head space that the AD's have. It looks good seeing it on the ground. In need to barrow the (front) 20's off of my 48 to check fitment up front.

Keep at it. Don't loose sight of your 2nd place trophy.

Doug...answer to ? #1 The paint I used was all rattle bomb first was shot with Epoxy primer and then it was topped off with High Heat Ceramic paint for the block. The Intake was Shop line Satin black I had here at the shop.
Answer ? #2. The alternator was a factory unit That I shot with the same paint as the Intake.

Looks like you have a space problem in your Sub, Doug.
The few times I see one overhere they look big.
I reccon a LS motor is bigger then an old small block?

I like the intake setup, is this a High Rise manifold or stock?
Looks good tho!!

And I love to come over and stripe your firewall, I'll even do it for free for you!!
Unfortunatly I'm short on money to buy tickets...
But.....we are thinking about driving a camper through America next year, so who knows what will happen

Hey Kees, the LS and SBC are pretty close size wise. The intake is a Holley high rise that I think I will use. From a performance standpoint for horse power or torque it helps absolutely not at all. Probably hurts a bit. And I just want to build one for the look I want...just having fun.

That would be so cool if you guys came through with a camper! We have a lot of space and you would be very welcome. Hope you can do it!

Only because you cheated and set the engine back into the firewall - for me, I had to go to remote power steering reservoir for clearance. I'm running the small Sanden SD7 compressor on a narrow top mount
(http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_high_mount.html - K10291 , Vintage Air sells this as their own LS mount bracket), and I'm going to have to bump the inner fender out about an inch for clearance. With your engine set back you'll be better off, but I suspect you'll still be too close for comfort.

I got a tip from a certified welder that worked in the oil field, welding steel casing for the drilling process. He said he uses acetone that he sprays from a spray bottle. He said no harmful fumes, and dries quickly, and cheaper than any cleaner you buy for 4-6 bucks.

I have used it for years and I'm still breathing, and mix any ATF with acetone (50/50) it makes a great solution for rusted fasteners. I've used both and they both work. Just my 2 cents worth.

That intake is "evil"

(http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_high_mount.html - K10291 , Vintage Air sells this as their own LS mount bracket), and I'm going to have to bump the inner fender out about an inch for clearance. With your engine set back you'll be better off, but I suspect you'll still be too close for comfort.
Hey JJ, good to see you back! Yep, this is the ac mount I considered from VA. Somewhere I posted measurement pics with engine in relation to inner fenders. The right side would be close...and inch massage will look ok to me. I want to avoid sticking half the compressor through the inner fender.
