I am guessing I am going to have to run a spacer on the rear to get the wheel where I want it ........ we will see though. |

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
A 22x9.5 (with a 5.75" BS) is the same as a 8.5" wide wheel (with a 4.75" BS)
In my opinion,... this isn't enough backspace up front with a stock crossmember and stock width a-arms. Most people run a 8.5" wide wheel up front with a 5.25" BS because that's all that is available. (I like 5.5"-5.75" BS on my 8.5" wide front wheels) 22's can be made to work as long as you keep your overall tire height in check. I doubt you can do this with the stock inner fenders installed.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
i am running 22x9.5" panthers on it right now but am rubbing on the passenger side. i think it would be less of a headache to just go with the 20's and smaller width so they can fit better in the fender. i am also running a 5.5 inch static drop in the front. am i going to have to put spacers on the front or back for fitment?

As Lo-Life was saying a little more backspace would be Ideal but when it comes to cast wheels you are limited by what the manufacturer makes and 5.25Bs in the 8.5 is the best I have seen any company do. Something else that Lo-Life touched on is narrower control arms would be the same basically as using a wheel with more backspace as it pulls the wheel and tire further under the truck. If you were to have wheels made then you could specify exactly what you want .... BUT that doubles the price of the wheel almost. Disclaimer ..... !!!!!!!!!! I'm not an expert at this as there is always something new popping up. Given whats out there the above combo does work and looks the best to me.... |

When I wear out the 275's in the rear, it looks like I have room to go with 295's. Likely, then, I'll raise the front end up by 1" or 2" to get the whole truck a little more level. We'll see. Was going to go with bags in the rear. But suggestions from wiser minds prevailed.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
Anybody have any pointers for running 20x10 Boss 338's on a 60-66 fleetside with a '72 rear axle? My rear axle overall length is 65". Should I order the 5.5" bs or the 6.23" bs. I want to run a 295/40/20 tire. Thanks!!

I would just get out a tape and measure your truck yourself. Did you install an adjustable track bar so you can verify the rearend is centered in the truck?

Thanks for the advice LOLIFE99. Best for me to measure once the bed is back on......just eager to order wheels!! I did install the adjustable track bar and shock relocate kit from Early Classic to get things centered. Thanks again.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
Just remember, when measuring,... a 10" wide wheel is actually 11" outside-to-outside.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
Here are some pics of my ride with 20x8.5 black Boss 338's. Picked them up from Discount about a year ago and love them! I had no problem fitting them on my ride. I have 1'' rotors and they already made the changes to the center to fit over the wheel bearing portion. Would have gone with a deeper dish on the rear except it wouldnt have fit with my link set up in the rear. Also I can rotate the wheels for longer life time! Let me know what you think.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
The wheels for because of your 1" rotors, not because of any changes they supposedly made. 55 pages of this thread confirm that. Nice ride!

We are talking about cleaning up the snout of the rotor and a very minor amount at that. Besides the fact that, that is not were the wheel sets or centers off of. Where it centers off of is fine.... You dont cut there or clean that part up.

Like I told you in the pm's, grind enough to assure that the wheel fits flat on the rotor's mating surface, and torque your nuts properly.
