Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
That's good to hear. I was at the local cruise night last Friday night and this guy had a gorgeous 72 Cheyenne with a big block that was absolutely mint. I was talking to him about it and he started complaining that he couldn't drive it anywhere because it always ran 240 even with an aluminum radiator. So having a cool running engine is a great thing to have, as you already know.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Alright. I'm gonna try and get started posted some picks from hot rod power tour 2015. I'm also going to invite anyone interested to look me up on fb if you want. I have a lot of picks posted there too. Michael Wells in Sleepy Eye MN.
Made it to Madison, WI with no issues. One of the first vehicles we saw was one of at least 3 busses that were making the trip. They were really set up for the long haul... They even brought a couple pit bikes... Here's another big rig making the trip. It might have been carrying another car but I never saw it loaded... One of my favorites from last year was there with kicker again. I really love this car and maybe I can emulate some of the style into my olds... A beauty from Rad rides by Troy... I don't think this made the trip but was just there for the day... My son is a huge fan of hot rods roadkill so he was pretty excited to see this rolling through... I have more pics, but not uploaded yet, from the first day. Here are a few shots from cars at the hotel that night. This bug roadster was badass. I think they did the long haul too. That's all I have time for tonight. I got a lot going on right now and eventually I'll get it all on here.

Sweet! Keep posting pics of the Power Tour for those of us who can't make it. I am a huge fan of Roadkill too, to it is cool to see a sneak peak of what a future episode holds.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
I apologize for not posting much lately. Been busy. Trying to buy a new place and buying and selling other trucks, etc. Anyway, here's some pics from the tour.
Not part of the power tour, but available for other tours... The Mississippi River north of La Crosse The boy got to meet his beater idols... At the event Some pics from the road... I'm not a silver back gorilla, more of a silver chinned one... I love finding the weird stuff... This 2 tone was kinda unique I think because the white was more of a cream color. Nice truck... Loved it... One of the nicest K-5s on the tour... One of my favorites... My dream car...

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
More trucks. I really think there were a lot more 67-72 C-10's this year than last. Lots of really nice trucks and ones I didn't see last year.
Well supplied. The advantage of driving a wagon on a road trip... Surprise... I talked to the owner of this one for quite awhile. He had some good stories. I used to think these were ugly but compared to a nissan cube they are beauties... This next one was a monster. Built on a dodge truck frame using hudson bodies (I think). Took the guy years to build it. Definitely different and got a lot of attention...

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Still going. More pics from the road and getting parked at another event...
The yellow vette is my friends. He was in a group there that went as far as St Louis. A couple of them in that group do this almost every year. I followed along with them part of the day. My kids love Steak N Shake. I love the shakes. Pretty much mandatory to have one if you eat there. I think it's a rule... The wait was a long one getting into Gateway Motorsport Park. About 1.5 hours in 90F plus heat. Even with the new radiator I ended up pulling off to the side for about 5 minutes to shut it down and cool off. New fans next winter. Once we were in I got a spot by the race gas pumps... Finnegan was asked to autograph the baby. My girl friend is Connie. She used to live on a farm. We are now trying to buy that same farm back. Weird how things circle around sometimes. We had bad news the first night on the road. Our dog has been having some health problems but when I left Saturday morning she seemed ok. That night my daughter called, very distraught and said Emma was having a hard time standing or moving and breathing funny. I got ahold of the vet on the emergency number and made arrangements for Connie to pic up some more meds for her the next morning. She didn't survive the night. My daughter, though she is 18 and a mature young lady, was devastated and had to take care of things on her own. Of course I felt aweful about not only losing one of the best pets we ever had but that my daughter had to handle it on her own. Sunday night we were in Champagn, IL and I found an appropriate place to eat. Emma was a black springer spaniel. And even found a good beer to toast her memory by... After the day in St Louis we stayed at friends place NW of there. After a few days of running like this it was nice to sit down with friends and have a home cooked meal...

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Gonna try to wrap this up. I have a ton of pics, but I know it can be boring to see other peoples vacation pics.
On the road again... Memphis bound Dedicated... Saw this car throughout the trip. Was the only one I remember seeing too. I'd definitely drive it... One of the GM performance cars that I really liked. Mainly because it had the drivetrain replaced with the new direct injection engine and new tranny. This is what I want to do with my C-10 in a couple years... Sweet ride... Mine... Draguar... Bought myself a shirt... And tagged my truck... Company in the shade... Totally badass camaro... Overlooking the drag strip... An attempt was being made for the worlds biggest burnout. I think there were about 115 cars, this was supposedly the one that was going to give them the record. Later that evening we cruised around Memphis. We found a back way along the river..

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Then on Beale Street we found the power tour cruise night. I got super lucky with a parking spot about 50' from the "invited" cars. This was one of the highlights of the trip for me. I loved it. Music pounding from the bars, cool cars downtown, plenty to see and do.
Love me some COE... The next morning we were splitting from the tour. I talked to this old guy, I dug his wheels, good choice for his boat. He likes old chevy trucks too and had a few of them. Me and the boy spent the morning in Memphis, got the oil changed, and went to the Metal Museum. It wasn't quite what I expected, but still interesting and worth checking out if you're in Memphis. A bigass anvil... I believe this means it weighs 50 stone, or 700 lbs Inside the work shop. They have resident artists or smithys and they make everything here that is displayed. Many of the displays were donated of course from other artists. Back on the road, heading back to the St Louis area to visit with my friends some more. We saw a fire from the highway. I was pretty sure they were just burning a field, but we decided to go check it out. Dirt roads... Welcome to Cooter, AR. Yeah, this is a place... We got back to my friends place. Ate like hogs, rode around on atv's, shot stuff up, etc... After a few days of R&R, we headed for home. Made it... Had one mechanical problem on the return trip. One of the bolts holding the alternator bracket to the head sheared off. The truck started overheating cuz the water pump wasn't spinning. I jammed a dog bone wrench between the alternator bracket and the power steering pump. Strapped it in with a couple wire ties and went on our way. I found a shop later that was open and could get the broken bolt out of the head and put a new bolt in. Another successful roadtrip. Can't wait til the next one.

That looks like it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed looking at all the pics... so no worries about boring vacation pics. I think HRPT is an exception.

Doing stuff like this was always on my mind when I was working on this truck. When I work on my Jimmy I'm thinking about what I want to do with it after its back on the road. Different type of build, different plans for it's use. Maybe thats what keeps me going on my projects. I don't think too much about what they will look like. I already have that image burned into my brain. I think about where its going.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
This is hopefully the home for my future shop. It's one of the machine sheds on the place I'm trying to buy. Appraisal guy was out there last week and I'm hoping for the results any day now. Bank has given me pre-approval. Just need to have a good appraisal and get my down payment together and it should be mine in a few weeks.
36 x 98 The temporary shop will be a 3 car garage with a loft and lean to on the back side. It's insulated and heated but needs better garage doors. Almost 7 acres to play with. The driveway is about 1/4 mile long. I'm thinking about some day paving it and building my personal 1/8 mile drag strip. I should be able to set up some wireless timing lights.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Hey everyone, the dream is becoming reality! Gonna get my place in the country. I've been living in town or close neighborhoods for most of my adult life, but now I get to live more secluded. Start moving hopefully in a couple weeks. There is a LOT of work to do. House hasn't been lived in for awhile, water in all the systems drained out, needs some repairs, LOTS of cleaning, etc but I'm looking forward to it. Part of the deal is that the seller will be able to keep his junk out there until he finds a new place to move it to or 1 year from closing. So I wont get to use the machine sheds until after then. Which is fine since the 3 car garage is insulated and heated. I'll at least have a shop to work in until I can rebuild the shed shown above into my dream shop. I have a lot of ideas and hopefully I can bring some of them to life. It's my personal playground.

Closed on the new place last friday. It's mine. Still getting things done to get it ready for habitation. Water is on, but the water heater pilot wont light. Still cleaning, painting and taking care of other issues. I'm off most of the next couple weeks to get moved.
