Lookin good Mike!! Seems like you have a bit of a "snowball effect" going on... I can definately relate. Its easy to fall into, you just have to cut it off somewhere. If you are worried about paint, remember you can always drive the truck in sealer/primer. While I know it would not be totally how you would like it, at least you could drive it this summer and take it to some shows, and then next winter when you have more funds saved up you could have it painted. I wanted to paint mine while I had it torn down for reworking the suspension, but decided not to because I knew how much it would set me back from driving it. I say finish up the fab work, seal/prime that ride, and drive it! Besides, I need someone to cruise to a couple of shows with, and its hard to do that when your truck is in bodyshop prison

Well, it's a better job if you mock it all up first and then blow it all apart for paint. I think it would be great to prime it and enjoy it this year. You'd win some "best under construction" awards for sure!!!
Then, save up money (or survive in this current economy) and paint it when you get a chance. You might end up thinking about one or two other little things you want to do while you wait for paint that would make it that much better. I know when we removed my front clip, it took all of 15 minutes. Bed is about the same, small things like door handles and trim may take a little longer, but you will get to enjoy your truck and maybe decide on some small things to change while waiting on funds for paint. I would advise drilling alignment holes in the hinges of your hood and doors with an 1/8th inch drill bit. You will never notice the holes, but they will greatly help when you remove the doors and hood for paint, you will not have to spend hours realigning everything. just bolt them back up and go! |

those are great ideas....i wish i could just get my painter/bodyman to sponsor my truck it will be his first full custom vehicle on the show scene under his current shop name NEX Hotrods... i work almost every Saturday so he could show it as much as he wants under his banner to promote his business, i think it is a truck worthy of a sponsorship from him but ........... you know not to many people do that kind of thing anymore !! my other thought is figuring out a way to come up with the money to go ahead and paint the cab/firewall so when i assemble it i wont have to take that all back apart and just do the outside in like a Hot Rod flatz silver , all just random ideas, i live about 5 mins from a casino maybe i just need to go try to hit a jackpot !! lol

Painting the firewall sounds like a good idea....like nuke w/ project HAVOC...that would let you keep the cab bolted down....that's a real good idea!
Also like the flatz idea.... ....but the casino...not so much I always tell people...the casinos are always big and beautiful because they come out the winners 99.9% of the time

have you asked at all about sponsorship? Maybe talk to some of the guys on here who have gotten sponsors and see how and if they have any way to show the guy how much potential business/increased profits sponsoring you can bring...

i was just kidding about the casino i have the worst luck ever i would never even try it...... as far as the sponsorship goes , he knows it would be at a local show every weekend( either my wife and kids or my grandfather would show it all the time) around here he should be able to see that a truck of this caliber coming out of his shop would do nothing but send him business, and its not like he would be doing it for free i have already spent a bunch of money with him and sent him several other jobs also !!

 This is not me BTW, just some pic I found online. And I DO NOT advise this as a form of income, only entertainment. I watched a friend of mine throw away so much money it almost made me sick. I kept telling him he should just hand me $500 and I would kick him in the balls, it would be the same effect and not take near as long. Good thing he finally gave that up. |

i am laughing so hard i am crying !!! a very close friend of mine had $45,000 in winning tax forms from the casino by me last year.... i asked him how much he spent to win that much but he has no idea?? so who knows if he was ahead or behind...if i was a betting man i would say behind !! but i am not a betting man...pun intended

Best way to get a sponsership is to build a car or truck that makes it in a magazine and a cover if possible. Then your next build get a rendering done and show the example of the build you performed before and you have a great chance to get sponserships. I did this with my 40 ppg is involved now because of the green 67 I built. Just my 2 cents.

You are doing a great job on this truck. I think you will be suprised how many offers you will get from magazines that will want to shoot the truck. If you want when the truck is finished I will point you in the right direction. I have lined up Shawnas truck for a photo shoot when it is done. Take the truck also to a few big hot rod shows like grandnational or good guys and you will get offers. We will talk when you get closer to finishing the truck.
