Thanks. These stay up on a shelf that goes around my laundry room. I took them all down and did a truck wash on all of them. That red cab flatbed (aluminum) with stanchions carries a nice hack of lumber held down by two chains. I had the boards laid out drying somewhere else. I collected these years ago. I had a pretty big collection. I still have some others not shown, but sold off a bunch during the recession

Nice collection Tim. Brings back lots of memories. During the winter, I would put chains on the rear duals of my trucks (actually elastic bands, but it looked pretty cool).

I think that's the attraction with them, nostalgia. The first one I bought as an adult was a red '56 Ford pickup when they had antiques set up for sale in a mall when I was on shopping duty with my wife. I just liked it and it wasn't a whole lot of money. I always liked the 1t pickups. Then I started looking for them and when I'd find one it would bring back the memories. The gum band chains idea sounds cool. I'd get realistic with them like that, too. I got serious collecting when my son was past playing with toys. then came my younger son. So I'd get ones for him to play with and the rest were treated special. He had a monster sandbox.

I have a soft spot for any make heavy duty truck that shares the same cab with a pickup. A lot of those older toys were based off the mid 50's Fords.

It's a '53 to '56, but I'm not sure what the actual year is.

It took a truck driver to bring that last load of logs out of the woods with no Jake Brake.

CarolinaHD, the green one is a Sterling. I'm pretty sure I saw that truck still in service in the 70's on Rt. 128. If not that particular truck, one very similar. Nothing like the sound of a chain drive at 55 mph.
Davischevy, not only no Jake, you had to manage your brakes, clutch and transmission. Without AC, with sweat.

Yeah, I've driven in these hills plenty with no Jake and no AC. Take it easy and don't get excited.

Last year a deputy sheriff had to "rescue" a rookie female reefer driver off a mountain near here. She pumped the brakes until she ran out of air, the brakes locked, and she was afraid to release them once she built air again. Luckily the deputy had grown up in the log woods.

There is a company north of here that sends rookie drivers through here on regular basis and it's interesting to watch them in these hills. Not fun to follow them though.

The dangerous incline on Hwy1, British Columbia, Canada......

I went down that 11% grade, west bound..... Just a mile down from the top, my diesel engine through a rod..... Immediately lost all air brakes.
..... I was going for a ride...... I drove next to the right-hand cement barrier, turned my tire against the concrete and in about 200 yards, came to a stop.

It had no jake or even an electric brake on drive shaft......

Scared me to death, but saved the cargo ( & Me )

I was towed down to N. Vancouver for the fix.

( After driving from S. California, to St Louis , Saskatoon Canada.... I figured finally what that silly knock was !! )

I'm loving all these pictures. #1356 is a Super Duty or Big Job and that scoop is factory. The Dodge Job Rated medium duty trucks were just as cool. Even the Heavy Bighorn used the pickup cab. Those c-cab rubber tire chain drives are a cool era in trucks. I've looked that heavy Sterling over before at an ATHS show before... Awesome! I never knew of those Eisenhauers… WOW! I spent some time in Humboldt County, CA in the mid-'70s and loved seeing the old needle noses hauling shaggy old Redwood to the mills. I was in Fortuna, so between Scotia and Eureka. Loads and loads up and down that stretch of 101 and down from the hills on 36. Those old Peterbilts with no polished up trim are ingrained in my mind forever

The Pete's getting face time here got me to thinking about my 94. I can't believe I haven't posted it here before.

The time came to give it up. I sold it a couple of months ago. It was hard to do, but I haven't driven it much in a couple of years and it was a shame for it to just sit.

Thanks for that picture. That's what I'm talking about. No 18" polished stainless bumper, narrow steel with diamond pattern for looks and greater visibility. I did not know it then, but I was there at the beginning of the end of a great era in NW logging.

Not sure about the others, but those first 2 Fords are just a tab bit overloaded.

Reminds me of the story I told a time or two about the old '55 Ford 3/4 Flatbed my boss told us to use instead of the IH 2-Ton. After we loaded it, the truck wouldn't move. The Flatbed sat right down on the Tires, lol.
