Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Well I started on the antenna install today. Its going to be a bit of work to get ths right but it will look so much better sitting without an antenna sticking up. Ill have to make the cover around the antenna tube strong to support the hood hinge .I also extended the bezel retainer so it can be reached once I fill the area where the antenna goes thu on the inner fender

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
So I got it lined up and it's really good. Wil be straight up. The part i was worried about was there wouldn't be enough room and the antenna would be crooked and stick out of the fender but it doesn't at all. I have the bottom bracket made now I just have to make a upper mount.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Thanks. Im glad people enjoy it and hopefully some of you are using my ideas to spark your own ideas. Tonight I made the piece that will cover the antenna area on the upper fender.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
As I was thinking about how to route the antenna cable lead i realized that the original cable from the cadillac had a ground strap soldered to it that went to the body. So I soldered one to my nos cable and it will ground to the firewall by the ac unit. Never seen that before on any car/truck I've ever had

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Im still waiting for my fender to return to finish my antenna so im just doing small stuff not worthy of a post. Tonight I added a nos vanity mirror to the passenger side visor. Worked out great using the chevelle instruction sheet.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
So I've started to make a plate for the ower window switches to mount them to the door panel. Im going to get some threaded tube and Weld short pieces to the plate so I can mount the switches and then I am hoping I can find a glue strong enough to glue the plate to the under side of the panel.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I was thinking about the ca glue with the activator for low energy plastics. I might get a old junk door panel and try some on that before trying it on these.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I test fit my door panels again 1 more time to make sure the switches will sit properly before I do my final mounting and I thought I'd share this Picture. Things are slow but some pieces are starting to take shape. This photo gets me excited. Its starting to look like all the small things are getting taken care of and it wont be long till major changes start taking place all the way to paint. I try to do something small every day I can and the payoff isn't too far away.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Last night I went out with a buddy to look at some trucks being parted out and i found the bracket for the 67 style power steering that I've been looking for forever. Never thought I'd find it like that. Great find!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
So canada post strike sure held my stuff up forever. Anyway I tried 3 different glues for plastic to metal on the doors panels. Did 3 samples with the pieces of panel I removed from where the switches were and this is the only one that held. Was the only one worth considering. So dont waste your time with anything else if you really want it to stay on.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Smart to test. Always good to know it worked one time at least before you into it.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I agree. In reality I only had 1 shot at getting this right. That glue was so easy to work with. It requires a specific application gun but it was well worth it. Here's a shot of the panels assembled. I like that the switches dont look out of place and kind of follow the lines of where gm placed them in the cars of the 60's. Now once my fender comes back from my metal guy I can finish the antenna stuff and it's ready for final metal work. Hopefully soon!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Thats pretty cool. So you sent in your modified dash and I guess they just vacuum form the vinyl to it?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Basically yes. I made a template of cardboard and they replicated it in foam and vacuum formed vinyl over the foam.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I got the pad today. Took a bit longer from ups because of the plane situation in Kentucky. Looks really good. I am happy with the results. Will look better once I paint the bezel again and it matches the new gauge cluster.
