Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I got some time to work on it this weekend. I got the zero rates installed, and IDK if I'm exactly am happy with it. Before I started the wheel base was 132". After it's 133.5". So it definitely moved. I just don't think it's enough in the front yet. But I only moved it 1/2". I still have the 1 1/2" hole to try. I also stripped the other hole in my diff housing on the RH leaf spring retaining plate. So I'll have to heli-coil them. I had the inserts but no tap. I didn't realize the taps for a 1/2" heli-coil was an odd size. Go figure. I got the kit today though, so I'm good there. Any how, here's some progress pics.

I cleaned the bed out, removed the rear bumper, and slid the bed back. The bed was way too close to the cab for my taste.

Next I removed the bed so I can start on the GN hitch, frame boxing, and fuel tank swap. (Thanks for the idea Matty)

Almost had a casualty.............

No bed.

Tail pipe won't work when my hitch is finished. I'm planning on running straight pipe now.

Starting on the GN hitch. I'll have a B&W inbetween the 4x4 and 2x4 cross members.

Shoot, just this weekend and this morning, I bet I spent 10hrs working on this thing.

Exhaust pipe or Ia metro subway!

I agree, I think the axle needs to move forward still.

Ryanroo was the one with the idea. I stole the idea from him for my gooseneck hitch. Hell if you read his thread he said he wished he would have spaced his so the b&w would set right on top

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Today i fitted the 4x4 and started placement of the hitch. I need to go buy more clamps I see. This is just close. I will remove it and prep the frame before final fitting.

I also dug my air bags out. I've had these for a while and I almost lost them............... My storage building is getting infested with ground hogs. Those little SOB's have the dirt floor all sorts of rearranged. To the point that one of the air bags is missing. I had a box of 4 sitting on the floor, now, there is no box and 3 air bags. I'll be getting the shovel and pistol out this weekend........................

Needs a little cleaning.

Yeah, I don't even know for sure if the PITA's are ground hogs. I just know the Farmall H sitting in there has 2' of dirt piled up next to the RH tire. These sob's are going to get introduced to some type of liquid here shortly if I can find an entry or exit................................

Yeah, yeah, I'll paint it when the time's right.

I'm just going to be doing air horns on the 96 Dodge. And if we end up getting the "new" truck for the gf, it will end up with air horns and more than likely air ride as it sits on 19.5s... But both of those trucks will have 2 34"*8" air tanks. May have to invest in a few Viair compressors.
