Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

We have a (5) burner Pit Boss griddle at the lake house and a (2) burner at the BIG house. Absolutely love those things. A couple of weeks ago I cooked (4) 1.5+ inch thick tenderloin steaks and they were better than any five star restaurant I have been. The weekend before I cooked chicken fried rice. When at the lake, we can cook breakfast for (15) and all eat at the same time.

We also have a Traeger pellet smoker. Last weekend I asked The Queen where she wanted to eat to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary...she said we can't beat what we can fix here. So, I smoked us a tenderloin and lobster dinner. There just aren't the right words to describe how good that was.

BTW: At $ 32.00/lb for tenderloin around here, I have been using up meat we vacuum packed and froze a few months ago. The damn price of meats might make me go vegetarian :0

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I know a guy with a reclaimed lumber business. He's been in the business since the '70s. He3 got into engineered flooring with his veneers. He doesn't do the lamination process, used to send it somewhere in the midwest. These days he loads a seatainer up, ships it to China, they make the laminate flooring, then send it back. There and back, unbelievable!

The Luan mahogany plywood they sell these days is some kind of engineered wood product. It doesn't look like wood. It comes with a sticker telling about it being "sustainable". It sure looks different from the Luan I used to use.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Bad time for yellow jackets. I have paw paws all over the ground I can't get near because of those pests.

There are greenhouses up the road from me made the same way as your shelter. They have stood through twenty or more winters.

I'm digging out my cellar instead of tying steel to pour concrete tomorrow. Still need to pick up the other half of the Sakrete I'll need, too. This is on my 'barn move' project, the stem wall. I want to get that poured so it can cure a while before going further. While I wait is when I should be digging the cellar, but there is plenty to do and I'm going for it while I'm motivated

I dug out my basement when I lived in the house I rent out now. Was built in the 50s and was one of the first in the development. As they poured foundations they would clean out the cement trucks and use it for the floor. Needless to say after 50 years it turned to dust . Found the footings were 2 and a half feet below the floor so in order to get more ceiling (was a little over 7 ft ) height I dug down 18 inches so I could do 2 inch foam and a 4 inch pour . Was easy digging as it was back filled with sand . Hard part carrying out about 20yards of sand and broken up slab in 5 gallon buckets up the stairs and out to the back yard.

Busted my best buddy out of prison this morning. First time he’s been out in a couple months. It was nice to get out and stretch his legs.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yep, same here, 5 gallons at a time. I'm counting wheelbarrow loads (out my driveway and across the road, up a bit). 37 since I started counting. My goal is to hit 50 today. I started last weekend with 20 loads and did one a day this week. I'm digging 30" or so wide. I'm down the back length, across the far end, and 2/3 across the front. Once I get across the end at the doorway I'll form and pour that as the perimeter to the monolithic slab. I'm doing this so I can lay up block. Then I'll worry about digging out the center area and completing the slab. What's nice is where I've dug I can stand up. Not being able to stand down there is why I've hardly ever been down there in all these years and dreaded the times I needed to go service my water system. The more I dig the more encouraging it is. Best part is it doesn't cost a dime, only labor. I never saw it as vital to the resale but this will do a lot for that.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

For the floor I’m going to use 4x4s and 5/8 exterior plywood . Basically the 4x4s are the nailers and fill the square with item 4 cover with heavy plastic then screw down the ply. Did this in the pole barn at my moms 40 years ago no issues even put a 4 post lift in there on 3x3 1/4 inch steel plates under the legs . Running the lights with my road find generator

Oh she heard alright I don't want you guys to misjudge me. I can be as lazy as the next guy. Part of my motivation is the great weather and knowing DST is coming. For the barn move it's get the concrete poured so it can cure a while before doing anything else. I'll do that next weekend. It's 100% prepped

That will be nice with the floor. It's nice now. More room than I expected to see

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

It's energizing for me. I have a hard time stopping. I got to 40 loads and couldn't stop till I hit 45, which got me to the opposite front corner. Before I go dump the wheelbarrow I bring up another bucket full, even if it's supposed to be the last load. Get back with the wheelbarrow empty and might as well dump that bucket in. Then it's only three more and the wheelbarrow is ready to be dumped tomorrow. But why wait, go ahead and dump. Just trying to keep the momentum going while I'm motivated. I'm not saying it's work I love doing. So better git while the gittin's good. I'm trying to get all these bigger projects behind me so I can feel good about goofing off. I just bought a bicycle and a kayak. I hope by next spring I can start taking more leisure time and put those to good use. I also need to get back to my trucks

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I spent the day moving junk out of the way so the drywall guy could hang the drywall in my garage. What a PITA. But it will be nice when he's done. I can finally hang my neon signs. This is my second home and I've neglected it far too long. It's nice to bring it back to life. Now I just need a storage shed to clear my pool table off so I can lose at pool. Like the Rams did today against the Cardinals. They got spanked.

Okay. I didn't spend the entire day working. I watched football, drank beer and complained. But the garage is ready. All good.

Let's wait a little longer for all that. No sense rushing things

Digging in my cellar I find buried artifacts. Mostly broken bit of dishes, shoe soles. When I first got the place there were old Mason jars half buried I started a collection with. Since I began this project I have found a fox trap and one more complete Mason jar. How I dug it up not knowing it was there without breaking it is hard to believe. I thought I hit a rock and pried it up

I know a couple guys who used to run stills not too terribly far from you.

Here's my collection of jars
When you disappear we will know you finally found a few mason jars with gold coins in them.

As a testimony that I will work on almost anything with wheels I submit the following. This sprinkler was my father in laws and my wife loves it. The unit needed some TLC so I decided to go all out. Changed the red/white scheme to a John Deere paint scheme, made some new bushings and now just have to put the worm gear back on the propeller shaft and put the hose connection on to complete the job.

Thanks, it was a quick afternoon project. It actually does a really good job. Lay out the hose where you want it to go and the front wheel tracks the hose back.

You do remarkable work on your place. It's going to be really dialed in when you put it on the market.
