Re: 72 k20 project
I'll see what they have to offer as well. In answer to your question, yes there is a tube up there for the bumper. Good eye!

Re: 72 k20 project
I had the same luck with Wheel Vintiques. I wasn't impressed at all. My vote is for you to use that fancy new machine at work, and build a couple of sets of stock appearing 17x9 or 10's that accept caps. Then paint them white. I'd buy a bare set. Haha

Wouldn't you have to call those "Aluminies" or something like that? Lol

Re: 72 k20 project
That sounds about right. It would be funny to see the confusion on someone's face when you told them the wheels were aluminum

Re: 72 k20 project
That is something ive been thinking about. I need to look at that whole thread. It looks like a sweet build. And maybe try to get a hold of that dude and see where he got those 17" cans. Thanks for the link! I love seeing builds like that

8 Lug old school looking kidney bean / slots...
I know they're chrome, but with a low initial cost they can be de-chromed and power coated with a reasonable overall investment.... If you want to me go look at them, let me know.. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/pts/5062683610.html |

Ryan, nice to hear the bed should be done soon. That will make the truck look more complete for sure!

Re: 72 k20 project
I emailed Stockton Wheel. They can make the 17x9 in bare steel for the 8x6.5 bolt pattern and they quoted me about $220. per wheel. http://www.stocktonwheel.com/heavy_duty.html
22 Series - SWS 4x4 Special Wheel The SWS 4x4 Special is built to your specific application and is available in any backspacing you require and in multiple bolt patterns from five to eight lugs. SWS 4x4 Special comes in your choice of powder coated white, black, silver or chromed finishes. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Interesting. i called stockton last week. no answer. called back, left a voicemail with details of my interest and contact info. no response yet.
i will have to consider that heavily. its a lot of cash for steelies. id still need to put another 200+ into coating at my shop so i imagine having them do it isnt much better. i can get the soft 8s and have them blasted and recoated for less than 880$ but, if they can put an OEM center with the cap nubs in it i may be more swayed to overspend... i genuinely like the soft 8s, but having it look like stock wheels would be really cool Thanks ryan! i keep having assembled and green visions run through my head. the list is long though! |

Re: 72 k20 project
I use the message system on their website at 4am.. had an email (in my spam folder) the next day....
For using factory hubcaps on non factory wheels, a few people used these Volkswagen spring steel clips. They come with rivets, but I have seen aluminum wheels drilled and tapped.... Hope this helps. http://www.jbugs.com/product/111-115C.html |

Re: 72 k20 project
Thanks for that tip Rich! I am trying to find some type of wheel to put on my 76 since I need 16". Maybe I can find some 16x10 steelies and use those clips to retain a hub cap.

Re: 72 k20 project
and now for when you all will shake your heads at me. i dont want hub caps. i think they look cool on the right set up, but i've always been partial to the capless look with the stock wheels. that why i am interested in the wheels with stock looking centers. i still like the ones pictured, but i really want the shape of the OE center

Re: 72 k20 project
Well with all those burnouts you will be doing soon,it will be hard to keep hub caps on the green machine !
With or without caps, it will look good with just steelies.

I have heard alot of bad things about Stockton wheels. I would do some research before you start thinking seriously about them.

Hello Ryan,
If you are considering rims that need modified/built custom, the first people I think of are www.rallyamerica.com. A father son team in Prather,CA. Very honest hard working people that do the quality of work I have seen in your project. Regards, Bruce |
