How are the plugs? Right gap, fouled out, still sounds like timing to me. |

Re: SoCal checkin' in
HEI or Points? Use the timing light to find which cylinder is not firing, then swap a wire to see if that changes anything.

Its been a while since i contacted him....but i agree its your timing..move your dizzy around ...what exactly is it doing?have you checked compression? I had the same problem with my 350..timing was dead on but i had a cracked valve...motor had a cam and other goodies that it ran but had no power...

Re: SoCal checkin' in
I'm having similar troubles with mine. About two months or so ago I replaced the fuel pump, carb (Edelbrock 1405), fuel filter and air cleaner, plugs, wires, cap/rotor. Ran solid after up until about a week ago. Rough idle when in drive/reverse (running right around 650 rpm in drive). Sluggish acceleration but once going it runs strong.
I replaced the fuel filter but no change. Pulled the idle screws and blew everything out but I'm thinking I'm going to have to pull the carb apart and clean it completely out. I can't find any vacuum leaks. |

Thats a timing issue. Could be your vacuum advance. I had to go with an adjustable vacuum advance to correct my timing issues. |

Re: SoCal checkin' in
It's possible that either the cam and crank gears are not lined up, dot to dot or the distributor gear is off the cam gear by a tooth. Just a thought(s)

Re: SoCal checkin' in
Can any of you guys recommend a good engine machine shop in the North Orange County area? I'm in Old Towne Orange. Pulling my engine today and plan to rebuild within the next few weeks. I have my own machine shop but my mill is too small or I would do it myself.

Re: SoCal checkin' in
If you got the money go to orange engine rebuilding in anacrime I mean Anaheim...There's Valenzuela's on Batavia...I have used them before...most of my motors I take to an old school machine shop on cypress st. If you don't mind waiting a while john hollins knows his stuff but he is an older fellow and takes his time since he's a one man show.. @ hollins machine shop.
