Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
thanks guys! today i'm going to drill and tap the new water pump(if it came in) and plug the steam vent on the radiator. i've been staring at that hose and its bothering me. doesnt look right... then get the new water pump on and filler up w/ antifreeze.
that noise bothers the heck outta me though... need to put on the bottom of the bell housing and see if its still loud. not sure if its normal.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
the 6.0 seems to run great. i let it get up to operating temp so the thermostat opened. added a total of 12 quarts of dexron 6 to the tranny. still making that wierd squeal noise. not as loud now i think. just going to wait till i get the drive line. overall i am finally happy just hope my 3 piece covers fit still.
going to figure out a cold air intake next... oh yea, the painter sent me a progress pic to my phone yesterday. the firewall is ready for primer! going to go over and see it today after work

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Is that steam line mod to the water pump a common mod? and a way to handle the steam line for those w/o the extra port on the radiator? just never seen it before.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
its pretty common. same way s & p does theirs and i read about it in ''how to swap an lsx into anything'' book. it really cleans things up. s&p has even mounted their coolant temp sensor on the top of the water pump. i was kinda hesitant on drilling a hole into a new $300 pump but what the heck it worked out

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
I guess you just did it with the w/p off? With a drill press or by hand?
I need to take my w/p off anyway to swap in a different cam so I could just do this then. Only thing I was thinking of... is connection point just needs to be "above" the steam line itself, correct?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
higher then? I thought the steam connection had to be higher then the steam line itself and where it comes out of the heads? In order to bleed off air bubbles, the reason the line is there?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
well i went out and looked and the water pump and fitting are higher than the heads. and i imagine the pump is sucking from the heads also rather than just bleeding off into the radiator.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Where you did it is perfect. I am going to do mine the same way just ned to get the fitting to install into the pump. Looking good man.

sounds like my solution as well. clean, simple, and easy to do.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
the firewall is just about ready for primer and then he's going to do the inside. and prep the bottom for undercoating. i'd like to get the cab back all painted and finished but i think Rich wants to hang the doors before he does the outside... i'm not sure how it's going to work out because either way its gotta get jammed and i want to get all the wiring done with auto meter gauges and put down sound deadener.
