Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

fryer1979 Hey guys, new member here. Just wanted to throw my pics in the pile. This is the 1966 longbed C-10 I am picking up from a friend of mine. Not too bad for a first truck project, and definitly not the worst place I have started from on a build. BTW, there are some VERY nice trucks in here, and some amazing projects, I can only hope mine will earn it's place among the ranks.

It already has!

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Once I get the truck in my possesion I will get a build thread going. This is actually the condition I am taking over the pickup in, minus the ultra-cool Challenger steering wheel. Pictures were sent to me this morning from the previous owner, and I will be hauling her back to my shop on Friday the 16th. I'm gonna do this project basically from the ground up so once the '66 is in my possesion I'm going to tear it all down. Plan is a really basic build as a clean daily driver with a 327/700R4 combo, just a nice classic pickup to drive.

Welcome to the forum from Washington state. Body looks nice and straight. Once you get it home make sure to take a ton of before pictures. After taking hundreds of pictures during the build, it's always disappointing to go back and only find a couple of shots (or none) of how it looked in the beginning.

Thanks. I actually have that issue with my 1979 Camaro; tons of pics all through the build process, and only two of it in original condition the day I drug it backwards down my street. The sad thing is those two pictures aren't even all that good, and they are old paper pics. I actually started a build thread for the truck, and posted the pics I took with my cell phone. As soon as I get a new digital camera I will take a whole bunch more before I begin tearing her down. If you want to see her in her new home, the thread is at: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=398059

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Saw this 60 in town yesterday, think I might go with this color on my 62 stepside project. Might go with the 60-61 hood too, preferably with the 61 grill and hood inserts. Don't think I'll go with a 73-80 bumper though..

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Here;s a few shots of my 62 that I'm just about done with - except for the engine & drive train that is. It's a 1962 Step Side with a 235 & Powerglide, Power Disc Brakes, Rallys, & TA's. Here's a few pictures of the before & after shots.

You know, I'm not even sure but I kind of doubt it. If it doesn't I will be looking into the Vintage Air or similar systems as my wife is a big fan of her creature comforts.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Please take a lot of pictures and post them. Were always looking for the real thing for detailing how they were originally. For instance the rear chains and clasp look plated not painted, original?

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Certainly. The clasp and chains were put in a box in '66 and pulled out yesterday. They are not painted. Look to be plated--almost like a galvanized finish--except for the hooks which look almost chrome.
Appreciate the pristine comment. But, will require lots of work. Goal is make it look like it did rolling off the dealer's lot. Although the 13yr old asked if we could paint if black with flames--ha/ha. Lots of memories learning to drive this as my first vehicle, and giving her back to dad while in college--the 75 TR-6 took her place for awhile. One more pic.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Need to check the vin#..but didn't think it was a custom. Dad said she was a basic. You can almost make out the 3 holes where the small mirror was. Dad had the dealer put on large mirrors since he was loading a camper. Believe she is a basic.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

There was a bright package, comfort package, custom, plus many other factory and dealer available accessories. More pictures would be able to determine what was optioned. Paint code would be nice, looks like Turquoise Poly & Cameo White.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

you have a nice looking original truck that has history with your family from day one.you are right the tailgate chains were galvanized (zinc) plated from the factory and the fleetside trucks had grey covers on the chains, stepsides had black chain covers.looks like a easy restoration with that nice of a body.

Collins--you're absolutely spot on. Spent 20yrs in the military (flying fighters). Parents are in their late 70s/early 80s. To see the look on my Dad's face when we loaded her up today and he saw his grandson sitting where I did 40 some years ago was priceless. Funny how a truck can mean so much to a family--but it does. Look forward to leaning on the years of experience resident on this board. The internet is an incredibly powerful medium. Think I've monopolized the Pics thread enough for tonight.

cgnjrpilot, that's a really nice truck, and i know what you mean, my mom learn how to drive in my suburban and when my mom and dad started dating they would go out and take the suburban so it has a lot of sentimental value to them and to me cuz when i was i use to play in side of it and pretend that i was driving it and stuff (and i still do cuz it doesn't run YET) and know i own it, well good luck and keep posting progress pictures..oh and good luck on that drive back.
