i must be totally confused it thought porting a box was just putting a hole in it with the plastic tube ???

well now i dont know what to do.... i dont plan on competeing or anything with this system so question is if i run both subs in this box will it still sound ok just not as good as it could sound with the proper air space or will it sound like crap

Usually. When it comes to subs, no matter what brand, a sealed box will give you tighter more accurate bass for the most part. A properly built ported box will be louder, typically about 3 db louder. However it will not be as tight but rather a "boomy" sound. Its great for rap, r&b, some pop music, ect. But for me (and this is just my listening tastes) a sealed box sounds better, particulary when listening to rock and roll, blues, ect which is what I like to listen to most of the time.

Ported boxes are "tuned" to a certian frequency by the length of the port, and the sound output will be loudest at that frequency. It will roll off sharply on both sides of that. However a sealed box will have a flatter frequency responce, meaning the output will be pretty much the same no matter what the speaker is playing. Not a flat sound, but a flat responce. Ported boxes are always larger than a sealed box as well, so if space is a concern, its easier to fit a sealed box than it is a ported one.

Ultimately its up to you. Depending on what you like as far as music, how you like it to sound, space avaiable, and what your end goals are, you can set it up any number of ways. Some people are happy with a couple of cheapo 5 and 1/4 inch speakers and an AM radio, while some want concert quality sound and yet others want to be heard from a mile away, but could care less about hearing anythnig but the boom of their subs. I would listen to a couple of setups, and make your decisions based on what you like best.

Also, the sub does have someething to do with how it sounds, but the box is EVERYTHING. It makes all the difference in the world. If you read on any sound quality or spl forums, the number one reccomendation when people are unhappy with their setup is for them to rebuild their box, because it usually is either not tuned correctly or it is too small. The box is everything, and as TubbedII said, building a properly built and tuned ported box is much more diffuclt than building a sealed one.

If it was me, and I was looking for the best sound and still be loud, I would run one of those subs in a sealed box built to the proper size. It will sound better, your rock n roll will be more accurate (a kick drum will sound like a kick drum, and not just an empty boom) and in a single cab truck, it will shake you to the bone still.

you could make a little more volume by building it out between the seats but it would became complicated and you need another place for the amps , another way would be to stuff the box with that white fiber stuff , it makes the speaker believe its in a bigger box , make some braces inside so the box doesn't zoom at certain frequencies (think they call it standing waves in the professional world ) , you can tune the box to you're liking by adding removing material
you could alls make a (or more) port(s) out of two tight fitting pipes (rain piping?) sliding into each other and fitted under the seats , you can tune those to you're liking like you would tune a sliding trombone and adds volume too as long as you have the room under the seats its an option

well i took a little advice from the board ....and got my vent glass stud tig welded on , there is very little discoloration and i think i can get most of that polished out !!

Reproduction 'non-chrome' aren't great from web research. This is one of those parts where it's best to stick w/rebuilt original stuff.

you do need to activate the red eye filter on youre cam if it has one next time youre going to use the flash
most of you look like you got mirrors stuck in youre eyes (because of the cameraflash in the dark room ) , some photo editingprograms can solve that too

manual , no dents in the bedfloor new battery looks like new inside (with the seatcover on)..... hmmm that is a nice truck could sit a bit lower but a verry nice base for a sleeper/ hotrod

That truck is super clean. Windows look great. I think I am going to go with one piece. I just hate how wing windows leak air it drives me nuts. Keep up the great work I cant wait to see this truck finished.
