Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
OK, I stand corrected, the cresent will fit.
I took a 1/2" extension, cut off the male end and welded a 7/8" nut to it. Works great. You could use the cresent to turn the 7/8 nut. |

spent 2 hours under the trailer with a cut off wheel. im so dirty and nasty. im covered in metal shavings. a spider ran across my EYE! I got the passenger side running board off and the driver side loose of the brackets. the drivers side is still attached to the rear fender but other than that its a go. woot woot.

Yesterday I installed and tentatively adjusted the passenger side fender bolts, then installed the front latch plate. Today I cleaned, painted and installed the catch plate. Any tips for adjusting the latch bolt?

Also, Ran my defroster ducting and installed my AC orifac tube into the evaporator. After that I had tons of sweat and called that good.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
No photos of the five minutes on my truck, did some grinding and cleaning of rust on floor, very close to getting it in primer.
But I also had to make a tool to remove the springs of my Rambler. I made those and they came out great. The springs have little brackets at the top and the bottom for this tool. My SnapOn spring tool wouldn't work, not enough room. Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Got out there for a real "Five minutes" tops tonight, welded up some spots I noticed that I missed on the patch at the windshield. Welded, ground, done deal, not much but som-then got done.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Adjusted the fenders and hood gap on the passenger side. Came out real nice. I still have to add the rubber bumpers.
Then I installed my radiator only to discover that despite a previous trial fit my fan was now contacting the lower outlet - wth? Apparently readjusting all the front sheet metal had caused the core support to shift left, creating interference. So I cut about 1/4" off each fan blade and balanced it with a lawnmower blade balancer. Worst case scenario, I go to an electric fan, but I really want to avoid that if possible.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
At my age I'm wishing that I hadn't done so much exercise in my life. All those reps take their toll on your body. Joints are like engines - when they are made they have a finite number of revolutions built in. Use those up and your engine, or your joints, are shot and need rebuilding. From doing so much lifelong exercise my shoulders and knees are worn out. It's like this old joke:
A Wise Chinese Doctor. Q: Doctor, I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it…don’t waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap. |

You are right in heavy exercise, things like pumping heavy iron or jogging can be hard on your body, that's for sure. A fast paced walk is pretty easy on joints. Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
As usual I'm awaiting mail order parts so I must find other small tasks to keep my build progressing.
My original parking lights were shot. I wanted to convert them into turn signals but the cost was a deal breaker, so I used cheapo truck marker lamps. I fabricated a simple bracket and bolted them in the original park lamp mounting holes. They're dual bulb so will definitely be bright enough, plus they look like they were made to fit. And at 1/10 the cost of repro turn signals I like the price as much as the looks!

Made one good fitting set of spark plug wires out of 3 sets, wired up the coolant and oil sensors. Times up for today.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
This is the best I can do for a bracket pic. The lights were $2.99 at the local truck stop. Ha ha, I'm guessing on the Stovebolt forum I'd be cursed for such an unoriginal abomination!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
ha. no no. those are two separate things. I got my fan shroud in the mail today and I need to shop for a grinder. I burned mine up this weekend. although it will take some chopping to wedge this biggo fan in there. its not even installed and the fan has already drawn blood.
