Its labor intensive but the only alternative is a $1200 new unit and still doing the labor of r&r of the center axles and related . Used from around here would be in the same condition and one from a rust free area would cost alot just in shipping so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

And to top it off the oil pan on my CTD rotted out and is leaking . Like living here but the winters take their toll on vehicles

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Finished up the second coat of lacquer on a bunch of totes that I store wood in before I make it into completed projects. Once I find the handles for the last 4, I will buy them. Seems like Lowe's doesn't sell that style handle, anymore. It would be nice to have the last 4 drawers have pulls to match the other 8.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Did some more *****footin' with my (small) barn moving project.

At first light, while it was cool, I went across the road in full covering clothes and rubber gloves to rip out and cut overgrowth. It's a steep bank and the one year the county took some time and scalped it clear. That winter I took a Pulaski to the roots and knobs, then got it all planted. It's what I see when I look out from my front porch. I let it go last year and now I'm paying. Stickers, vines, and poison ivy. I go so long then run in for a shower in case there was a breech!

Now I'm about to fire up the grille for some t-bone action.

After that... I don't know but, if I had to guess (or go by most any other night), I'd say I'll be sawing some Zs

EDIT: I forgot that warm and fuzzy reference to kitty cats is not allowed.

Mmm, T-bone. I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did mine. Early birds are chirping, starting to get light out. Got to dive back into the poison ivy patch again.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Today is my dad’s 80th birthday. He’s still a tough old coot! Asked for pizza & homemade ice cream, so that’s what we did.

Purple one had orange crush flavor and tan one had vernilla!

We went fishing last week and caught 8 pretty nice crappie. Here’s one of him from a month or so ago. He still likes to go, but he cannot hold up in the summer heat very long. Heat & humidity takes his breath away. When he starts yawning, I know it’s time to go home.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Awesome 80 is a big accomplishment, I hope you get several more good years with him! I make homemade ice cream a gallon at a time about once a month all from scratch. We stick it in the freezer the minute it comes off the ice cream maker. A gallon usually last 3-4 weeks at my house. Nothing beats home made from scratch. I haven’t had store bought in a long time.

Done for now. Even installed the lights. Too bad there isn't any power yet...

My dad is coming down with his Kubota in september. We're going to straighten up the dirt edge and dig the foundation for the block retaining wall.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Not too long ago I was made a supervisor at work. Been pondering all day how to deal with a problem child, good thing the job came with a good raise.

It was nice to get home to momma bear and the kids and start to water my grass. I would drive the 72 but it’s been raining like hell lately as we are in the best monsoon season we’ve had in several years. The windshield leaks pretty good when driving in the rain.

My sister in Santa Fe says she's never seen it so green there in July, so much rain this year. She's been in northern NM since the '80s.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Tim, I’ve had rain on the northwest corner of the state every day except for 2 in the last 10 days. That’s unheard of here. Its quite green by our standards here too. The good lord has been blessing us mightily.

some may wonder why I water my grass when it’s raining…. Vegetation here needs all the help it can get, even in the rain.

Welded up the new cover on the Tacoma rear differential. Had to do it in several different stitches to prevent warping the housing . Got a little rust overnight in the rain but I’m going to sandblast and paint it anyway

Nice work, running the mig in a circle like that and controlling the bead isn’t always the easiest thing to do.

Looks good

If you let the paint run, It won't rust

You ever seen rust under a paint run.

I didnt use my little Hobart 210 on it . I was able to use a Miller 255 at my friends welding and fabrication shop while he was doing my hitch . What a pleasure to use a real good unit

Had to drill out a jet on each of my 1406 edelbrock carbs. Got the helicoil kit in today and got them both taken care of. Now I can finally start to reassemble them and put one on my bronco so I can finally hear it run.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Wasn’t a fun morning took the Chevelle out and about 20 minutes into the ride it started to have a valve tap that got louder and louder. Stopped at a strip mall and let it idle tap from drivers side. Good thing I had some tools and there was a Lowe’s . Got the cover off and I see half of the adjuster nut sitting in the head . Managed to get the remaining part off and all pieces are there . So I called a tow truck and they said minimum of two hours … great… so I had an idea I bought a 7/16 18 lock nut spun the motor over little cranks with the starter till #2 was at TDC installed the nut and adjusted till I had tension on the push rod . Started it up very slight tap . Buttoned up the cover cancelled the tow. Drove it to my rental home where it’s stored only about 2 miles car ran good . Got the replacement at a local speed shop. Enough excitement for the day. So I came home and worked on the 72

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

A big semi truck parked in front of my house. The guy has the material for a retaining wall I'm having built. My contractor told me it was going to be delivered today and I totally forgot.

Now I have to move 2 cars so the forklift can get in the side yard and neither car has been started in at least a month. I am unprepared and praying that they will start.

The driver tells me that I only have to move the Corvette. He can get around the Cadillac. Good news. But now I have to see if the Vette will start. It has cobwebs on it.

So I get in the car. Cross my fingers and say "Come on baby' Press the button and she fires right up like a champ. Good old Chevrolet!!
