Well here's a quick partial update. I now had my chance to do some work to the rear of the frame again, this time I had the extra crossmembers and I had the bed off so i figured now was the time. I had the rear of a leafleting frame which actually worked out better since it had the reinforcement plates at the top corners to help with flexing and bending if the crossmember which was exactly the problem with my frame, I'm assuming one of the PO of the frame used this crossmember to strap and hook to things and that left it pretty deformed as well as the smaller one behind it. This is a before shot

So after looking at the new crossmember I had 2 options, 1st option was to use a washer to make up the gap between the top of the crossmember and the frame rail, or Option 2 was to use the reinforcement plates to fill the gap and to add some better strength to the crossmember... So I chose to use the reinforcement plates. The only set back was that the are for the 2nd hole to mount the frame to the frame rail wasn't going to work, there was a large oval hole where the small 3/8 hole should have been so I cut off 1 inch from the plate and drilled a new hole in the plate and the frame for both sides. So now that should be very nice and resist any bowing or bending in the crossmember a little better.
Edit: I also drilled a hole in the depression along the bottom of the crossmember for water to drain out and stead of just puddling up |

Well more work being done! I finished the install of the new metal floor and metal floor header board on the 67 and I've got everything bolted up and tightens down with all new hardware... Between this new bed floor, the 700r and all the frame work I've been doing I've probably bought enough bolts nuts and washers that the US government is getting suspicious.. Anyways, having a actual bed floor is amazing I can put anything back there except for change or little BB's and not have to worry about it falling out not to mention how many rattles have just dissapeared! Definitely a happy camper. Also picked up my new driven speedo gear for the 700r only to get home and then realize I need a new housing that excepts 40 series driven gears instead of the 30 series ... So I'm going to head back to the transmission shop and exchange them housings. Other then that I've got the new pan gasket installed, I installed all the wiring for the TCC solenoid and now the only things on the list are to buy new hard lines and make my own new coolant lines and the CPP transmission crossmember and I'm ready for install. Enough talking here's some pictures for you guys

So I bought an inch pounds torque wrench that way I can get the lower 8 and 12 foot pound torque specs done on the 700r so I finally got home last night and I got the valve body and pan torqued down and ready for tranny fluid |

Also been figuring out exactly how to get power to the TCC and I've come up with getting a 67-72 brake light switch w/cruise control and using the cruise control terminal which are NC (normally closed) and then when the brakes are applied NO (normally open) which will cut power to the solenoid and will (should) disengage lockup of the torque converter. So now I just need to find one if those brake light switches but where to get one that is of good quality.. Guys have any suggestions? I don't suppose local parts stores will have the cruise control version

Well I had a but if a gap between the flywheel and the torque converter pads, but after I posted here I went and searched a bit more ad I guess sometimes that happens and all you do is slide the converter up to the flywheel the rest of the way so I'm going to get the little 3/4" long grade 8 bolts to bolt it together today.
Update: 700r is in! List of stuff to do: Bolt trans to engine-DONE Install dipstick-DONE Install new brake light switch-DONE Run power wire to terminal of cruise control portion on BLS-DONE make new coolant lines-DONE Install shift linkage-DONE Install last portion of TV made easy kit on carburetor and attach cable-DONE Install driveshaft/driveline- new driveshaft is 1" too long, need to go exchange it for shorter one Fill the trans full with fluid-DONE Hookup ground to frame-DONE Order new CPP trans crossmember-DONE should be here tue-wed Install new trans crossmember-not done Last edited by 67chevy1series; 10-28-2014 at 12:50 AM. |

Ok so I got the new lines... But I don't know what happened the lower one is about 6" too short?? So something happened when I measured that one out... Geez that's a pretty big distance to miss haha... So I installed the upper line but I'm waiting tomorrow to get the right lower line length.
I installed the ground and torque converter bolts so it's really just up to the lower line, drive shaft,crossmember, and filling it full of ATF and then the test driving begins. Anyways did some research and the place I got the driveshaft said there was a two inch difference between the 700r drive shaft and the th350's... Guess the guy was wrong or got it mixed up because everything I'm seeing says 3" which makes sense since I had a 61" and the new one is a 58" and it's an inch too long so 57" is the golden number here. I'm going to try and also take care of the drive line dilemma tomorrow as well. |

Well managed to get the lines both on and start filling the trans with fluid and now my biggest issue is finding a driveline... It is amazing how hard it is if you aren't getting one made/shortened/ lengthened!

Well I wanted to keep the one that I had with my 350 trans so that way if I have to put that trans into a shortbed c10 I'll have the right driveline and I won't have to look around for one... But I'm leaning towards just saying screw it and get it cut down and re balanced for the 700r4...
Well I had a personal goal to install the 700r and get everything worked out and drive it this Friday to go hangout with friends for Halloween. Well I'm not crazy, well I started last Thursday so that have me 8 days to do it... That's plenty of time to get a trans installed especially considering I've already spent countless months preparing the trans... Well today FedEx showed up with my crossmember but it was actually the 47-59 transmission crossmember.. So I called cpp and we got it all worked out and there going to send my 63-72 tran crossmember out as soon as they can but I'm pretty sure it's not going to be here by Friday so I'm still waiting on a crossmember and a driveline and I've only got today and tomorrow to make it happen.thats not happening so looks like the 67 gets another week off lol |

Rick did you look in the classified section for a drive shaft? They pop up occasionally. I know shipping sucks but it's a thought. I just had a new tube put on my yokes at a local shop. Seems like it was around $100 out the door with new U-Joints installed and balanced.
You don't have access to a pick and pull salvage there do you? They sell them here for $11 at our pull-a-part. You could get a donor and have the yokes put on a new tube and still save the 350 shaft. Just a few of my cheap thoughts...... Nice turnaround time on the 700 install. We will need more pictures though. |
