Thanks guys. I had a good Christmas.

It has been slow going on the truck. I had to totally work over the bottom of the driver side door. The gaps weren't even close. I had preset them but never had the fender to check it before bodywork. So there was a bunch of wasted time.

Thanks. I'm happy with the passenger side over all but the driver side is never going to be as good as I want it. The contour/shape of the door and fender are just a little different. So they won't match up very good. Both pieces are GM original sheetmetal but from two different trucks/years so, I'm wondering if the tooling wore and they just fit the best pieces together at the assembly line?
In any case, I am stuck with what I have. I'll try to get some more pics when I get the final gaps set.

No I worked on my project and helped Landen with his. No golf in a long time. Back to winter today.... Ready for spring.

I was looking at some old photos and I just noticed my original paint factory fender I'm using had a gap issue straight from GM:
It's like the profile of the back of the fender is different than the door. These are the same cab, fender and door I'm using.
This might explain some of my gap issues.

The trim appears to be farther off than the body lines, but you're right -

The trim is off bad too but the fender sits out past the edge of the door, which means to make it even I would have to shim the hinges to make it match. I have adjusted the door outward on the hinge and the gap at the top inside (where the seal hits) has a gap. Basically, I'm stuck unless I change the door, the fender or both.

I'm going to see if I have any more pictures of the donor truck from the side or looking toward the front.

What about going the other way and taking a cut off wheel gap out of where the fender bolts up and welding it back together? Im not sure what those year fenders look like as far as bolting up to know for sure..

The problem with doing this, the hood has to have a gap to open properly. If I did this, I would have to cut the hood down too. I really don't want to do that. I cut down the bottom of the door where the yellow tap was the other day and it was major pain. I still have to re do the bodywork on the bottom of the door now.

NOTE TO SELF. Set all gaps on the truck before beginning any body work! I did the door gaps with my cab on the dolly but not with the fenders.

Lesson learned

I see the cowl is on in the pictures, but have you checked the gaps for the cowl vs the fender & cab? I ask because I understand your pain with doing body work first, then checking gaps and want to save you some effort if you haven't checked your cowl too. I hope you have already checked this and there isn't a problem. *fingers crossed*

If you move the door out to line up with the fender, would a new seal fix the gap for the door seal? I assume you haven't installed new seals since it's not painted yet.
