Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Another cool thing about Brockways is that many were Detroit powered.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I helped a friend move his '52 GMC cabover out of his driveway yesterday (beer reward for helping). I officially have more time in the driver seat than he does. Cool old rig.

Has a 351 V-6. Pretty heavy GVW for a 4000 model, 22,000.

Ford Turbine from 1964. Brief story behind it:

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
The turbine turned out to be a dud, many manufactures tried it in the 50's 60's 70's. Could not beat the " cost per mile". However, the design of present big rigs is getting closer and closer to this experimental. Notice the super large single tires, super large cab and sleeper areas and super large glass, not to mention the wing faring between front and rear axles. No wonder I'm not interested in present big rigs. Notice the " gear and lightning bolt" emblem on the front end, a signature Ford truck traditional emblem from the 50's thru 60's.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I thought that was the coolest emblem. The knuckleheads driving all these Ford pickups today wouldn't know it if they saw it. Never seen one with that sticker on the window.
Yesterday I saw the coolest thing. All through my life, through my childhood, I have spent time in the mountain town where my mother grew up. The visions of '50s-'60s Big Job and Super Duty Ford trucks are most vivid from up there. Logging and coal mostly. So many were red, and back then they way a truck got dressed up was with accent painting. Maybe some chrome touches, but a little paint went a long way. The diamonds and chevrons on bumpers were about safety as much as decorative. Well anyway... yesterday I was up there in the opposite end of the county I've not been through much. My son was driving. I was looking down at this farm as we passed and behind a building I spotted a faded red '58 (I believe) big Ford tandem dump. Straight out of my memories. What tough trucks! We came back a different way, so didn't get a picture. I won't forget seeing that one. Now I need to go back. I'd sure like to talk to that farmer about that truck. Probably hauled coal with it back in the day. Not many of those around. Certainly not pictures on the internet. I just tried. A '58 Tonka big Mike will have to do

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
That's it. I only got a glance, so may have had an egg crate grille. But '58 is my favorite grille, so that may be influencing my memory. Thanks for the picture. Nylint must have had licensing from Ford. Their trucks were actual replicas, said "Ford" on them and actual emblems.
I don't recall ever seeing this LCF version before

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
We've been skipping over White throughout this thread. They don't seem to get a lot of respect they deserve. They kind of became the cheap fleet truck poster child, dime a dozen nothin' special. AND, a zillion of them out there! They were also the symbol of the big dog buying up other companies, up until they became the one bought. Well, Australian had a fondness for Whites not seen much in the US, some here did doll a truck or two up, but mostly I really enjoy seeing the old cheap fleet dime a dozen Whites wearing the now extinct trucking company livery. I also always had a soft spot for the White Mustangs. When I was a kid in the '60s I knew trucks a bit. I would see one a say, "Look, there's a White Mustang", and the other kids for scan all around and say, "Where? I don't see any Mustangs". Then I'd say, "That orange one. Allied Moving Co"
Not all 4000s were named Mustangs. I'm not sure how that went

Always liked Whites. Closest one I ever drove though was a '69 9000.
Some great pictures there Tim.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I appreciate the thank yous you all. I enjoy doing this and having this place to come look as much as anyone. I had that little conversation with myself a few posts back because I'd like to know if those Fords were their LCF offering at that time. I sure don't remember seeing those, but that's not saying much .
I guess with diesel power coming on the radiators had to get bigger
