Looks like first gen glass. Take a picture of the bottom bracket on the glass. Are there rollers on it? You should have no problems putting it in either way though. I would put them in before you paint the doors though...

BTW: The newest kits come with clips on the scrapers.

Great wheel choice! My buddy works at AE. Your build is coming along nicely as well.

Looking good Dennis. Those one piece windows are going to be sweet on there. I can't wait to see that cab sitting back on the chassis!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Nice build... I've been reading this whole build from page one and im definitely more confident for when I start mine, 83 lwb c10. Dennis, If you had to total everything up so far what would you say the cost is? Just curious.

I see you have a Goat, very nice. I sold my 05 GTO (sap) a month ago, i hated to see it go. Good luck with everything else, thats if u need it, looks like you always have a handle on things.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thanks guys! y'all keep me going!

CoreyLeo223, what an awesome 1st post man. i apprieciate your comments and i'm happy this novel has helped you feel more comfortable in tearing your truck down

as for the total cost... i went through a few reciepts just to jog my memory and wrote a list of the big purchases. i cant believe the number i'm looking at right now!

$13700 with the paint....

just keep in mind this has been going on pretty consistant for 18 months now. i'd like to say im at least 1/2 way there. once the painter is done doing his thing she will start coming together.

as for the goat, its a love/hate thing...

if you ever need any help or advice or have any to give feel free to post up buddy. there is a great group of guys i consider friends on here who are always ready to help

Look at it this way dennis, your not even halfway to the cost of a new fully optioned truck. You will have a brand new truck when your done though...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I don't think you are supposed to add up the reciepts. You only keep them for warranty.

I have actually taken a bit of the opposite approach with my truck. When I was building my Blazer, I bought a lot of stuff, and ended up giving a lot of it away when I got divorced. There were a lot of NOS parts that I would love to have now. Anyhow, I am trying to keep my '79 as low buck as possible. It seems to be working. I have been enjoying scavenging stuff here at work and trying to make it work. I have quite the pile of stuff in my garage.

Dennis, dont feel bad man. I am right at $9700 with mine and it's not even getting painted! It's not about the money. It would be well worth the cash in the end to have a rolling memory of your Grandfather and a truck that will be about 10 million times nicer than any new truck you could buy. $13,000 is not bad if you say it real fast!

This is true. And $13,000 is not bad at all, unless you mention that and my truck to my wife.

It will be ok Dennis! You will forget all about all the money spent when you fire it up and go on the first road trip.
