I think the cowl will gap out good from what I have checked. The bolts look like they will fall right in and yes there will be some shims required.
Yes, I did try my new seal on the driver side. It's the push on type so no worries with glue. I can get the door to fit pretty good with the seal but if I adjust it out to match closer to the fender it has a gap at the top between the door and seal.

Can you sneak the door out a bit to match? I had to on Yeller. You think this is bad, try an aftermarket door! Never. Again. You could maybe mill the slots in the upper hinge to get you a little more "out". I had to do quite a bit of completely painted juggling on Yeller, and it's still not quite right. Check your cowl, as well. They can be waaaaay outta whack. Mine was. Good luck!

I could adjust the door out enough to match the top of the fender but then the seal won't touch. I'm more than likely just going to have to live with some mismatch.

Thanks for checking out my build. Sorry the thread is so long. I am slow....
I assume you are talking about THIS patch panel? I used some sheet metal from the scrap yard that is used to make HVAC cabinets. It was the same thickness as the original floor metal. I used it for several patches, worked great. I also is galvenized so it should resist rust better.

Yep thats it. I think it was a pretty smart thing to do. I went and got a sheet of 18ga and half of it is rusting away in my garage.

Thanks Buck. I am trying to build as nice of a truck as I can for the cheapest price. At times it's tough but I have done pretty good up to this point. I will have to go back and upgrade things at some point, but I want to drive this thing.

Not much new here I have been doing some busy work. Blasting parts to put this thing together one of these days.

I'm proud of my son Landen (eightiesonly) he completely rewired the harness and did most of the install by himself.

Thanks the 5.3 swap turned out great we just drove it about 20 miles.
Runs drives and sounds like a new truck.


I have been epoxy primering all my parts. These I will paint with a semigloss single stage enamel. That is if I can get one that I like. If not I will use black base coat and a flattened clear. I'm sure a spray can would be sufficient though.

How about the flat black that STP67-72 and n2billet use? It's Medallion Hot Rod Black made by Rubber Seal and every truck they have used it on looks amazing.

Those are some of the first parts I sprayed. I went down to the Napa Paint store and got some "basic" reduced gloss black, single stage urethane. I only bought small amounts at a time but later figgerd it was about $400 a gallon! YIKES! That was on top of the pricey epoxy primer too. Since then I've found Van Sickle at our local tractor supply / buckaroo feed store. More like $10/qt plus some basic naptha thinner. They offer a "hardener" too, which about doubles the price but it's still a bargain. From what I can tell it's a pretty sturdy finish, perfect I think for "chassis black". I'm glad I used the spendy urethane for my wheels and rad support I guess but I'll use the tractor paint for stuff like that from here on out.

You're getting close man! I'm red with envy over here.

I've seen their projects and I like that look. I think THIS is what you are talking about. I haven't found pricing for it yet.
Right now, my plan is to get all the bare metal parts epoxy primered. That will give me some time to purchase the paint. I really like the idea of a single stage 2k product. Thanks

I epoxy primered all the bare blasted parts then I ended up going with the Medallion Hot rod black that Buck recommended above.
I really like the way it sprays and it has a nice finish. I will more than likely use it for all my under hood panels too. Sorry for the crappy pics, I only had my cell camera. You get the picture

I like it













More easy work updates soon then Back to dreaded body work.
