Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
Thanks Jelly for keeping me in mind. I really think I'm gonna ditch the 2.8 soon. I seen a 2.8 engine on ebay last week that a local engine builder was selling. I thought about it for a second. But, I think I'm just gonna run a low horsepower 350 crate engine with an auto tranny. I (we)got stuck at a local car show the other day. We took the GMC. My wife can't drive a stick, I ended up getting really sick and couldn't drive home. So it's time to have an auto put in. I don't think I'll be driving to much anymore.
Here's the pic of the 2.8 the guy had on Ebay. It sold for $1,201. This is my personal project that never really happened! A complete rebuilt 2.8 V6 that I was going to put in my 37 pickup. This engine was machined and rebuilt at my shop bakersfieldcrateengine.com . Google it if you want more info. It has been bore out .030 and stroked to a 195-197cid I forget which. I put a 3.1 crank in it and this engine now has a very healthy 10:1 compression. I also fitted it with a nice cam and springs that will increase the bottom end power a bunch. The engine should have a good idle and not choppy or shaky. The heads have been ported around the bowl area(pocket porting) and flow like newer style heads. This engine is fresh and has not been fired up. I have all the other parts to complete it including brackets and two intakes. One EFI and one carb. manifold. The engine originally came out of a 1986 S10 4X4. This engine was built to make lots of power and also get great fuel economy. It should have no problem making 220+ horsepower!

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
I thought it was cool you had something other than a 350! I would love to hear that built 2.8 run! I had one in my old chev celebrity.
I have a rebuild stock 350/350turbo trans in my truck now but i am looking at other options. I kinda want something with EFI. I missed a fullsize Chevy silverado with a 5.3 that was rolled but the motor was good last week for $600!! Sill alot of time for me to make that decision. Not gonna drive anymore? Hope you get to feeling better. |

Very cool man. As much as I want a nice built 5 speed for my IROC, I really wanted the built 700R4 in my '54 for a cruiser. I dig the wheels. Will you be at the Pismo Car Show?

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
i really like how you and your sons truck turnedout. that is one heck of a build. definetl in my top honors class for trucks. i do have a question for you though, how easy/hard and time consuming was the rustoleum paint job, how many coats did it take.i am curious b/c my 68 project is gonna be put on hold for a couple of years and i want to protect it somewhat from the elements without wasting my money. I have to do customers projects again go figure,so mine will be on the back burner, but i still want to driveit. thanks.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
Sarge, I just read through your build and I'm floored! You have a one of a kind truck that you and your family can be proud of. Any true American will be proud of your boys truck too. A real class act I must say... I would love to take you up on your offer and come see your truck to appreciate it and steal some ideas if that is ok. Do you plan on attending the Arroye Grande Car Show at the end of the month? I think you have a real fan favorite on your hands... I will PM you my contact info, again great build.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
1950 GMC- PM sent. I'll get back to you when I get back in town.
nuke1- The rustoleum paint job wasn't to hard. It took longer than expected since my son did most of the painting. I think we did 6-7 coats of rustoleum. We also did 2 coats of POR15 on the cab, fenders, bed (inside and out). I wish my son the best of luck if he ever decides to repaint his truck. Do a search for $50 paint job. There's a guy on a Mopar forum that did an amazing job with the stuff. I like it. It's cheap, it holds up, and you can get it almost anywhere. It's not for show trucks but worked great for us. slimneverdies- Tires are 255/35/20

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
According to http://www.ad-engineering.com/ they say you can use 1982-2003 S-10 or S-15 (reg cab long bed highly encouraged by them). I just picked up a 1983 V6 S-15 reg cab long bed for 200 bucks at a towing yard.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
kalvin22: The later frames will work, (Round Body trucks) but there's some extra brackets that will have to be trimmed out of the way. The earlier trucks are usually cheaper too.
50 GMC: That 83 should work out good. You might have to build a new cross member for the very rear if it's got the earlier style little one. I've seen 83's with it and with the newer style. A section of 2X3 tubing works fine. Steve

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
Hello Guy's, I just wanted to let you all know that I had all the tests done here locally and sent to Bethesda Maryland for the surgeons to review. Once again, I've been let down. The surgery is to risky and can't be performed.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build
Hey Guy's, It's been a while now since I've messed with my son's truck. I've been kind of down with my health. We bought a house a couple of months ago. So the General (my wife) has had me painting walls and moving heavy crap around. I bought a F@rd Taurus e-fan last week and some headers were just dropped off by the man in brown. This should give me some motivation to get back in the garage and do some wrenching. I took a pic of my wife's new "shoe rack". It's a good thing I don't have a high speed paint job. Last week there were double the amount of shoe boxes on the hood. So now that I have the F@rd e-fan, headers for his 2.8. All I need now is the eBay china charger and mod chip to hit 400 horses...lol

I'm sorry to hear that you've been let down by the military once again. It's not really something that we get use to, but rather start to expect. I hope that your not in much pain from your injuries. Just remember to take your vitamin "M" everyday. (motrin)
