Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Here's a hidden highlander! It's for sale, link below. I called and got the SPID because I was pretty darn interested, but just not gonna be able to pull it off in my current running-around state. Someone should buy, resto, and enjoy this old beauty. Btw, this was one of SSTim's great finds - thanks Tim. We both like to suspect every Custom Deluxe is a hidden highlander, and, occasionally, it really pays off.
I've attached a few additional pics that the seller sent me in addition to the cl ad itself. Even with the holes in the roof from the non-oem clearance lights that used to be there, I think this is a VERY fair price for a not-that-common, solid med red paint, gray plaid, Highlander that is also a Custom Camper. For what it's worth, the seller was very friendly and responsive (I do not know him). I think it'd be a beautiful combo restored. Anyway - here you go! http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/4675993197.html |

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
here's a few more pics - LAST one is NOT THIS TRUCK - it is what the interior would look like if restored to original condition - pretty sweet in my book. One could nit pick (incorrect mirror heads, missing carpet, missing antenna, non-oem radio, roof holes, etc, BUT he's only asking $3500... I WISH I'd bought this one instead of the olive 71 Cheyenne Super I purchased a few years back). It appears to be pretty straight with little rust. Enjoy!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Nice truck thanks for sharing. Would like to know how RPO VF5 Calif Vehicle Reg (listed above) differs from RPO VF6 California Processi (listed on my K5 in addition to RPO VF5). Maybe 1/2 vs 3/4 ton emissions equip?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Yes 1/2 tons as I understand it were production tested where the larger 20-30 trucks were simply factory certified to meet their lesser CA mandated emission requirements.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Another from the Hidden Highlander files. This wasn't actually advertised with a plaid interior but a SPID request and more pictures confirmed what I had suspected from the little picture posted.
Nice little truck loaded up with options just not power brakes! Wood beds we see but cargo lamps and the D89 stripe are not very common on a Highlanders. This is a plaid trim truck and notably a Janesville truck too with the center justified "Deluxe" emblem.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Why the base "sport" mirrors rather than camper mirrors?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Its a trim truck and not a promo package so only the interior changed. No vehicle options were changed or restricted on a trim truck.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
love light yellow. and dark yellow. and 72's... I remember when that one came up for sale a while back Tim. Another Janesville red-headed step child. Sometimes I wish all the factories centered the emblems though...
Na, not really. |

'bout a year and a half ago!
Nice to see the combination of options. Bet it was a sharp truck around town when new. :-)

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
2 options:
- right click on a picture - select "open with" and then select "Mircosoft Office 2010" to bring it up in Microsoft Picture Viewer - select "Edit Pictures" then select "Resize" - in one of the drop-down boxes, select 1024x768 (Document Large) - select OK, then SAVE the picture where you can find it. That will make it small enough to be uploaded. If the above doesn't work, then do the following: - Right click on the picture, select "open with" - and select Paint - In Paint, select "Resize", then select "Pixels" then enter 1024 and 768 into the two boxes that are populated with a larger pixel size. - Then select "Save As" (not just "Save") and save it to a place you can find it as a .jpeg or .jpg If you have an Apple, well, you're on your own... |

My buddy has one here in Prescott that's also for sale it's a clean Arizona 1972 long bed, with the optional tool box and what's left of the original "Plaid Seat" under a Saddleman seat cover
