Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

I like what you've done so far for sure. Two observations/suggestions:
  1. Give yourself more clearance than you think you'll ever need on the front rear tubs. You'll end up going lower, running taller wheels/tires, or both.
  2. Toss that Torker intake. That was the worste intake I ever ran on my BBC. Far better to run a dual plane on a truck/cruiser.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Following this build closely...going to do something similar to my 63...your truck is currently my role model...great job and pics...couple questions

1-the cupping of the lowers seems to have brought it down quite a bit from your first attempt...how much do you think it helped lower it? and kind of curious as to why it helped since the cup doesn't seem to put the bag that much lower?

2-what size/type of shocks are you running on front and rear?

3-where are you mounting the rear shocks?

i cant get the link to work for some reason but i bought them on ebay from performance online parts. just search for username performo on ebay and check out his store.. i got the tranny crossmember and engine mounts with bolts and rubber mounts for 210 i think

well i was using the suicidedoors cups on the bottom and they just sit down in the spring pocket to give the bag somthing flat to sit on..it was just too tall and the bag would fully compress (compressed height of 3 inches on my bags) way before it would go all the way down... and also when i raised it all the way up the bag was only like half way inflated before the upper controll arm would hit on the crossmember.. i think at the deepest point on my lower control arms since i modified them is 2 1/2 inches.. and before with the suicide doors cups the bag would sit above the control arm just a bit.. so i basically lowered the bag almost 3 inches which was the perfect amount to make it fit right

just noticed i never got a good pic of the shock mounts.. u can see them in this pic... still havent made some shock relocaters for the front yet... o btw they are just stock monroe shocks.. gonna upgrade later

The name "Torker" is misleading. They produce less bottom end torque than the performer and they make less bottom end and less top end than the Performer RPM.

They were designed for low hood clearance vehicles like corvettes. You don't have that constraint with the truck. I'd swap for a performer RPM in a heartbeat. Do a little google on the Torker and Torker II to see what others have to say about it.

I had a Torker II on my Z28, and all I can say is that it was the single worse intake I have ever run. Sawpped for a Performer RPM and have been happy ever since.

Coulter: That is a pretty sick build you've got going on, and I really dig your approach to the front end. I've often wondered about making the air bags lift higher like you have done, living in a small mountain town myself ground clearance is a must for anything (even the main drag). Also I've never seen much of a point in spending all that money to only get a couple inches of lift for driving. Again, I like your approach and you've given me some ideas to chew on for my roller. Sweet set up you've got there too bud. No doubt subscribing.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

installed my sway bar and made a new radiator support/better jack point

i still gotta make the u shaped brackets for the rad to sit in.. then gonna paint it

i think it looks cool.. it will be way easier to jack my truck up now since it is right behind the bumper and i got a flat plate welded on the bottom.. also you wont see the rad support in the engine bay any more!!!!!!!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Must be gitting some OT. No updates. bought a radatior like yours just wondering how you going to mount the top? It's no quite as tall as the old one.or are you going to lift it up ? Might be a good idea. I have the same problem when I jack it up.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

ya ive been a little busy.. gonna work on it some the next couple of days.. still not quite sure how im gonna mount the top of the rad.. i want it to sit flush with the top of the core support instead of sticking up above like the stock one

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

thanx man.. ya ive got a really steep driveway and i dont know if a dropmember truck would make it without dragging real bad

btw guess im gonna have to start looking for a different intake mani.. i wonder if anyone has tried welding a divider plate in there to make it a dual plane manifold?
