Thanks again. While my son is finishing the body work, I am going to get the suspension swapped over (much easier with the body off). Unfortunately, the parts truck (78 C10) we bought cheap a friend really wants to build up, so he is going to look for just a suspension set-up for us to swap for the parts truck.

well, I actually got a chance to do a little work on the thrasher today. pulled out the sander and some rattle cans and started to try and make it at least only 2 colors instead of 5

I also scored on a new passenger door. the current door I have has rot through the bottom and has been molested for speakers. it also looks like 5 different style mirrors have been mounted on it. The new one I just got was sitting in the garage at my buddies house, his uncle asked me if I could use it, if so, take it. it's a hugger orange, I hate to paint over it, but it has to happen

OK, so today I got a little crazy with my angle grinder ... The left side front fender and bed side are from a 67 parts truck that was in pretty dire shape. they had the original paint still on them and had sat outside in the mountains for years. All the paint was cracked and chipping and there was some surface rust. I tried to sand a little and paint it....no good. Then I decided to whip out my paint wheel on the angle grinder, and get to stripping.



then applied a base layer of primer/sealer. there were 2 spots with bondo so I smoothed them out a bit, and I will be putting a little more bondo over the seams where I shortened the bed.

So a few little updates:
Scored a drivers side door also. completely stripped and in awesome condition. Now I'm on the lookout for a pair of shorty fleet side panels.
Repaired my heater/defroster, had to open up the switch and clean all the crap out of the contacts, same for the windshield wipers. now all is working. Paid my registration and now she is road worthy, lights, heater, and wipers...

ordered a set of 5" lowering springs and an adjustable panhard from summit. will install and post pics soon :-)

Lowered the truck today. Used cpp 5" lowering springs in the back, and I cut 2 coils out of the front springs. ...ride is a little bouncy, but still better than the boaty stock ride.

I drove it to work today to do the springs, it was awesome, the motor in it has tons of power, now I just need an od transmission. I am not stopping till I find a 5 speed or 6 speed. I want that thrill of banging through the gears. ;-)

Just checked out your build. Just curious , is the bouncy ride from the two coils being cut or your shocks? I'm thinking about cutting one coil off my springs.

I'm thinking a little of both. cutting the springs actually makes the spring a little stiffer, less coils means less material to flex. Plus, I need to get the front realligned it has bad camber now.

nice, I wish I could do bodywork that good myself. I am just not good at the finish work. Although I chopped the sides, eventually I would like to replace them, so right now it's a little ratty..... but it's fast as hell.

I got a copy of DesktopDyno2000 today and I plugged in all the info from my engine and I was Pleasantly surprised. The original estimation I was given from the PO was around 380 hp. I pulled out all the receipts from the parts and work done to the engine, and the specs from the parts, and I found it a little more...

It looks like around 429hp, with a peak tq of 421lbs/ft

Yowza yowza! Thats a stout runner. What were the motor specs? Almost 350 foot lbs at 2000rpm, thats gotta be fun.

So, this truck has been passed around a group of friends. I was able to talk to the PO that had the motor built and got the story.

I ran the block numbers and the head numbers. The block is from a 75 c10, the heads are 2.02's. The PO told me that when they got the truck the motor had been built incorrectly and threw a crank bearing, so they had it line bored, and the cylinders bored out.

so the config is:

350 bored .080 over (so it's a 364)
10.1 pistons
2.02 intake valves
1.60 ex valves
ported heads,
elgin pro stock cam
stock rockers
produces .450 valve lift int, .480 valve lift ex
large port long tube headers,
eddy torker intake,
eddy 750 cfm carb,
hei (recently just installed that)

I was looking at doing an ls swap, but I have found that the roughly 400 hp is plenty enough to get me into trouble, If I really step on it it is hard to keep the wheels hooked up. it isn't crazy power, but plenty enough to have fun.
