Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Yes black does show everything and im actually using a electric sander to get smooth and to be honest it works great to be honest....but you cant get in some places so i sand blast and wire wheel those then hand sand to get smooth!...Still havent decided on what color i want... it will be a cheap maaco paint job im not going to spend 5-6k on a perfect one!

Thanks for the compliments guys..... Can't do much for a bit here. Want the paint cured enough to where I know I won't get any permanent finger prints in it re-arranging the shop to prep the cab for paint.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Can you list all the things you did to prep, sand, prime, and paint because so far i only sanded (still not smooth) but how far do i go down (PO put black spray paint on top of original blue paint) so far ive gotten down to blue is would that be good enough to paint over or should i go to bare medal or what?

I took the entire truck to bare steel... Inside and out. Be cautious trying to spray over some spray paints. (Lacquer). Could react and leave you with a big mess to deal with.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
They have different products for stripping. 3M abrasive wheels etc. I used 50 grit on my orbital sander.... Locked into grinder mode. Fonts spend much time with it on the bare steel. Once all stripped, do repairs and body work. I spray a drop coat on my filler when sanding it with primer. Spray with a sealer and a hi builds primer. Dust spray a drop coat on. Start block sanding. I start with. 180.. Finish wet sanding with 320. Use glaze for anything u missed. Prime bare spots and spray. Others likely do it different. Works for me.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Ok thanks...im using an electric orbital sander because we have an old compressor and it wont push pretty much any air tool so i will likely end up buying a new compressor before the trucks done because i would like to paint it myself!

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Paint cured up enough I feel safe workin around it now. Tail, reverse and marker lights in. Harness fabbed up for quick hook up to the frame when I drop it on. Tailgate went on today... and test fired the lights. Clean/rearrange the shop next and then finish off the cab.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Peel some tape and paper tomorrow. Doin stripes along the side in white. Similar to the factory moulding.. follows the lower feature line and goes over the wheel wells, etc.. Not sure if i'm going to spray them or decal them yet. Opinions appreciated here. This truck is gettin some shop truck logos.. done to my wife's folks former implement dealership.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Humm, not sure about how a painted stripe would look. Will it be like the 67? Don't remember what year you have oif its a Chevy or GMC. Maybe go to the photo shop thread and ask someone to do a couple ideas?

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
Ya... A stripe similar to a '67 side moulding. My first car ('72 442) was black with a side stripe like this. Love the look of it. The truck started off as a '70 C10... Not sure what you'd call it now. Lol.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build
I'd run it through ps but the pics available + the color make it difficult to mockup for a decent attempt.
