Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
King pins feel smooth and tight, I'm kinda waiting to see if I'm going to go high steer on pass side with a 2wd box and cross over, or keep something close to the stock configuration. I'm leaning toward crossover and will check them out then.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks for the remarks, we really appreciate it!
Been working on the power steering set-up. Originally bought a saginaw pump/res, but couldn't fit it in tight to the block because of the short water pump. Chased down a type 2 pump/pulley/remote res from PSC...lots of room to put it where I wanted.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We've been struggling with which seat we would use.
The original bench had a decent back, but rotted out bottom with missing springs/padding. We were looking at least $500 to get the parts we needed and have the stock bench reupholstered/rebuilt. We got a set of pull out 2006 chevy truck buckets (with the seat belts in the back) to try...didn't like how they fit in the cab, I wanted more room. They were in perfect condition for $600 w/ center console (no way that was fitting)...so passed on those. Looked at a mid 80's chevy bench, but wasn't really feeling it. Thought about the Astro van seats, but finding a take out seat in decent condition with a acceptable color wasn't likely...didn't want to reupholster a donor bench to get what I wanted. So, took some measurements and talked to Twisted Stitch about a extended/expanded version of their Cruiser seat...a low side suspension seat that we liked in our Rhino. A couple weeks later, for about the same $ as reupholstering a bench of some sort, and we have this. The back looks a bit tall, but we will see how it falls into place.

Looks good man. Seats are sometimes a hard decision to make. There are so many factors to conisder, from color, style, size.
I think it will look good in the truck. |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks DW!
Kinda looks like the seat is going to work, might of been room to make it an 1-1.5" wider and maybe an inch or so shorter. The base is sitting about an inch higher than the stock bench in the pics...might lower it a bit to bring the back lower relative to the window, but would like to keep the leg room increase too. Close enough to work either way though. Picked up some gut room too

Should be easy to adjust the height with your mounting system.
Looks good in there. |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Worked a bit on the seat over the weekend. Made a simple mount that utilized the stock holes, dropping the seat a just a bit under the rear window. Put a bit of lean to it, but still gained gut room and a higher seat...very comfortable for me. (6 ft. tall fat ass)

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Loving the seat, put a few trips down to Sonic and around town running errands with the wife and dog...almost makes ya feel like your driving around in a new truck sitting up high and proud
I hear ya Baja...I'm not looking forward to taking it down for the heart transplant. I want to have everything staged and ready before we start, hopefully it will go fast.

That seat looks great. I really like the build. Nothing better than seeing a big truck being brought back to life and the fact you guys get to enjoy it already.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks for the comments, it keeps us motivated!
The wife was tired of seeing the back of the hood sitting high and set me up with some new hinges/springs for Christmas

What method did you use to remove and install the springs? Wood wedges? Special tool?
