Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
The truck I was referring to had the hood open. The ad said PS & PB. It did not have a power brake booster or a PS pump. I have both from the factory on my 65. The ad has been deleted so you can see the picture or read the ad now.

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
My '65 has the normal master cylinder on the firewall and a remote hydra-vac under the cab.
BTW, you can add a hydra-vac to any system and avoid the problem of trying to cram a booster on the firewall. Gas engines only. The '65 had various power steering systems. The big tires made it necessary. One of the systems used a P.S. pump piggy-backed on the back of the generator. Most of the systems seem to be ram-assisted rather than a box with boost. The truck might even be air brakes. |

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
Thank you. I learned something new. My C30 panel has a booster on the firewall. And the steering pump mounted over the alt with a slave cyl. Seems to be a normal system as far as the ones I have seen. East to see both when the hood is open. I'm updating everything with the newer steering box and disk brakes. I have a 32' Silver Streak RV I'll be towing. Prefer safety over original. Who can see if its original at 70MPH anyway? LOL!!

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
The advantage of the firewall mounted booster over the hydravac booster was; you didn't need 2 hydravacs to have a split system. The dual master cylinder arrangement was first seen on school buses. You see a lot of old F***s with 2 hydravacs.
Some of the Airstream trailers came with a vacuum brake booster on the trailer. Incredible as it may seem; you plug in your trailer electrical connectors and THEN, you plug in the vacuum hose from the engine. If you're going to pull the Silver Streak a lot, I would suggest installing an aluminum cover on the diff to cool it down. I have a D***e D-250 that sees a lot of trailers. I have to change the oil in the diff fairly regularly. |

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
I have a 1974 C30 donor. (4 wheel not 6 wheel) The floating rear is new with 3:73. TH400 with shift kit and a Gear Venders OD, 454 built to tow. I think its the perfect match to the C30 Magic Bus. I'm keeping the body stock, just restore it. Since someone put in 70's capt chairs, all that will go to the garage sale. I got a 60/40 from a 92 chevy. I also got a 40/60 out of a 88 Burb so I can fold up the back seat should I need to haul anything.

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
I have a '70 D***e Power Wagon with a Cummins B,,, T-34 overdrive 5 speed and Spicer 70 axles with 3.73 also. It has a utility body with a cabover camper built right onto the service body,,, all in steel. I have to change the diff oil in that fairly often even though it weighs just 10,000 lbs. I pull a trailer for ATCs and desert/dune stuff.
I hear a lot of stories of rear axles overheating. Your 454 will definitely cook the rear axle. Synthetic oil and an aluminum cover would be a good idea. |

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds
Although not completely original (327 replaced with 350), here's a RARE bird for ya - 65 Custom Camper. Has remnants of original a/c. If only I had the time and room. And money, ha. Been looking for one for some time, but gonna have to pass on this one at the moment. Hope someone buys and restores it. https://janesville.craigslist.org/cto/6172530633.html
