Looking better and better, what size exhaust are you running, lots of room for it. I have 3" on my 71 4x4, pretty tight in some places but works, need it for the Big block. Nice temp, here it is -17c on a warm day, was -36c last week for almost 3 days, rather rough. it's getting closer to spring though.

2 1/4" is what is on there now.. I will go with 2 1/2" when I take it to the muffler shop... The weather here has been very mild.. It was 68 Friday...

I will start my resto on my 72 K10 SWB stepside within the next month or so and wanted to thank you for posting so many pics. They surely take the guess work out of alot that I want to do to mine. Keep the pics a coming!!! Great work and awesome truck!!!

On the frame you used POR15, can you spray it or do you have to brush it? Are you happy with the results? It seems as if that paint offers a good long lasting protection, just not wanting to brush it if possible. I have used a brand called "Master Series" before with much success just havent used POR15. Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

I brushed it on.. it self levels as it dries. I believe others have sprayed it on with success. I am very pleased with POR15. I did have some runs, but that was due to me getting in a hurry. It creates a very strong bond to the metal. I had to remove the bump stops on my truck and I think the POR15 was holding them tighter than the rivets.

Thanks a ton! I went out to my 72 today and give it the once over. Sort of preparing on how its gonna get tore down and such and what needs to be fixed. Man you are way ahead of me for sure. I have a few projects in the works right now so the truck is at least a month out on the tear down. I have a 408LS engine being built right now for the 69 Camaro, once that is in I am full force on the truck. Your thread is giving me the itch to start but after a few projects I have learned to do one at a time or nothing will get accomplished. Thanks for being an inspiration and keep the pics a coming!!!

Thanks tsnow..... I have started looking for a 1st gen Camaro for my next project... I am sure this project will last another few months.. but it is never to early to start looking...

I am very impressed. How many builds have you done? I am in the process of my second restoration, but I can tell you know what you are doing. Just the idea of installing a LS engine is daunting. Thanks for all the pictures and the knowledge you are passing on.

This is my first build... I have done a lot of mechanic work in the past (long ago) and a couple of engine swaps.. So I am learning as I go... this forum and the people on it are great resources... I would not be this far along without them…

It's alive...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooked up the PCM. powered up the fuse panel.. hit the starter.. started right up.... sounds good..

Nothing too major,,, it's been a while since I worked for GM so things may have changed. First thing that jumped out on me was that the fuel pump relay was activated by sending power from the PCM to the relay, usually that leg of a fuel pump relay has "key on" power and the relay is activated by the PCM closing the ground to the ground leg of the relay. The second thing was the use of a 20 amp fuse to the PCM through the "hot all the time" side of the fuse box. That power feed to the PCM is simply for memory retention and requires very little amperage to maintain. The 10 amp fuse should probably go there and the 20 amp fuse should go to the "key on" side of the fuse box for the actual power up of the PCM. Like I said, I may be wrong, glad to hear you got it running!!

Thanks fakerwade.... I could very well have things wrong.. However, in this case I think I am right. After review the wiring diagrams and the fuse box itself the orange wires (Blue Pin 20 and Pin 57 - Circuit 440) uses a 20 amp fuse. I agree it seems large for memory retention as well.. But I thought it best to follow what the factory did.

On the fuel pump, I was surprised with that as well.. The fans circuits work by the PCM taking the pins to ground. However, the fuel pump outputs 12V+.. Not sure why they did it that way...
