Agreed! mo bigga is mo betta! And I don't know if I mentioned on the last page, I'm dropping my bike at my brothers to see if he can get me the two sensors (that we think we need) so I can start riding my bike to work and around to save money on gas! We've rebuilt the whole motor, gone through all the wiring (not my favorite, or my forte) and the last thing we can figure is crank position sensor and/or cam position sensor.

Hopefully it's the fix... or else I'm just going to leave my tailgate down and let it fall out on the highway. If it works, I'll be back to murdering street! lol

Re: New member from DFW, first truck build not starting where I thought!

So no truck updates from over the weekend :p butttt,
Took my bike out to my brothers to find out they're working on a 71 long bed, VERYYY clean, some guy brought it to him after he'd seen how we did mine.

And went to the movies sunday, saw that White House Down movie. EXCELLENTTTT! lol
Had to share, it was that good haha.

Nice!!! Yeah I agree I think a shop is a must.

For me my shop, is going to be my man cave and business area. I want to build one at my parent's house but I'll be breaking home owner's code

I've actually thought about taking a bit of a risk and opening my own shop and do a little bit of everything restore car/trucks, oil changes, audio, make it like a 1 stop shop and not rip everybody off like some places do.

Me and one of the guys from work were talking about that last idea... but it's jsut so risky... it could be REALLY good and successful, or REALLY bad and fail... scares me...

Well I'm not genius but the smart idea or the way I was planning to do it, me and a good friend is rent out a building something small that you could fit a few cars/trucks in, and start small and you know if it hits and business starts booming find something bigger to go after. Not go out and build this crazy huge shop and fall flat on your face, but also man it takes word of mouth to help you out as well, they say that's the best business is word of mouth.

Yea, I hear that, but unfortunately just because of all my legal bills that I'm trying to finish taking care of money hasn't really been in the cards for me for the last 3 years... So most of my builds rely on hookups, good luck, and doing everything my self with good friends to help!

Neither did I, my dad always knew I was passionate about cars as a general and wanted to restore one, we just never had the money to do so and we got it sort of now but still have our low points as you see and I have to stick with simple things but it's fine by me cause I'm building me a truck. I grew up around the Old School Hot Rods, went to car shows things like that but never experienced the build part of it. My parents only graduated high school, so they want me to get a degree and I want one for myself.

And your doing a great job man!

Re: New member from DFW, first truck build not starting where I thought!

Yep! my mom only graduated high school, but my dad put himself through college at Rhodes in memphis TN, so he's always been a hard a*s about working for what you have, I hated it back then, but I love the fact that everything I have today is because I worked my a*s off for it! Feels good, but there's no way I was gonna go through college, just couldn't do it, wound up behind a desk anyways selling parts, but side jobbin it up, and building my own projects.

Yeah, your possessions mean a lot more when you have to work for them. You know it's truth but college isn't for everyone, and just because you don't go to college doesn't mean you can't be successful I know people that just graduated high school and there bringing home 100k a year at a minimum. To me it comes down to how bad do you want it.

Heck man you could make a business out of restoring cars and trucks and doing it for reasonable prices, or anything it's really the sky is the limit I know it's a term that overused but it's still.

Only problem is what makes the price reasonable while still making it worth it for the builder to make profit... ya know?

Re: New member from DFW, first truck build not starting where I thought!

Hmmmm, little bit of an update, I'm thinking my distributor might have shaken itself a little bit, truck fires up and idles for a second and then dies. Turned up the idle, to no avail.

Guessing it's the distr. because my tach is also not working now, so assuming it shook itself and turned, disconnecting my tach lead as well.

Ideas? and if it starts and then dies out, it needs to be advanced correct?

And I forgot, my inline fuel filter up by the carb was cracked so I replaced it with a piece of line, maybe i'm getting some clogging... I'll switch the filter tonight after work and run some cleaner through it

another texas guy here (arlington). sucks on your luck with the truck so far. hopefully things will come around. about truck not staying on. could be the crack on filter an air getting in. or like you said an distributor moved an just need to get timing back right.
