Re: '63 GMC Project

Hey Creep, not sure if its been asked already or not, but do you still have all the 3/4 ton stuff you took off of it? I'm looking to change my 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton.

Thanks

I have the complete front crossmember and suspension but not the rear stuff, gave that to the guy that did the welding for me.

I could part with it but I think shipping it from Ohio to Texas would be expensive.

Haha, thanks! The best part of the battery box is the look on peoples' faces when I ask them to grab my cooler out of the truck or to grab me a drink out of it.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Never paint that thing, the Patina looks great! Read entire build and wow, inspiring! Your truck along with C10Mang's truck are pretty much what I'll be studying while building my 66! lol.

What backspacing are the wheels??? I have some new 235-75-15 white walls sitting in my garage, but I need to find some black steelies! Where do I find them???

Thanks

Re: '63 GMC Project

Hey, thanks! I don't know what the backspace is on the wheels but they are factory steelies from a 92. You can probably get some from ebay or craigslist fairly cheap. I did have to grind down the spindles a little bit but not much. If you use stock A arms there may be clearance issues but I didn't have any with tubular arms. Good luck on your truck and be sure to start a build thread.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Not quite. I just finished clearing about 8-10" of snow from my driveway. I had to shovel through a 3 1/2' drift just to get out my back door. I did go fire it up and let it run last week when it got up to 60 degrees.

Re: '63 GMC Project

I went through some old papers that were in the glovebox and found some neat stuff. It turns out the original owner had the truck from 63-89 and had a construction company in Colorado then moved to Montana and had a land and cattle co.. By mid 65 the truck already had 74,000 miles on it and in 88 it had over 236,000. My odometer now reads just over 34,000 meaning it has at least 334,000 miles on it. It has definitely earned it's rest.

Re: '63 GMC Project

I'm glad that it has earned it's rebuild. That's a lot of miles on these old iron's.

Re: '63 GMC Project

I don't know what color I would paint it. I had been thinking of a two tone graphite and silver. My mom used to have a PT Cruiser that was a graphite color and I really liked it. Lately though I have been imagining it painted the stock color scheme or close to it but with metallic and/or pearlescent paints.

I actually got to cruise it this weekend! the weather was pretty nice for early April in northern Ohio. It got up to about 80* yesterday so I got the truck out of storage, scrubbed the white walls and cruised to Quaker Steak & Lube to a local cruise-in.

Re: '63 GMC Project

That PT Cruiser in the first pic is actually my mom's old car. She traded it in 2 weeks ago and I when I saw it pull in with the dealership's plate on the front I just had to laugh.
