So I didn't really like the Plain Jane strikers that came with the Altman Easy Latches. A friend offered to machine me some new striker plates to go with the latches. Could probably get in trouble for using the Chevrolet logo on them.

Decided to use a custom aluminum core support from AutoRad. It came with core support, radiator, condenser and overflow catch.

Re: Project "Buffalo Blizzard Surprise" 71 SWB build

So I really like the Sean Provost 1970 Mafia C10 truck and what they did to the engine bay. My goal is to try to duplicate the inner fenders. In order to do that I first have to modify the fenders and then make some inner fenders. Come along for the ride.

So here is what my stock fender looks like. I'm going to have to modify this on both fenders back to the hinges.

I'll have to cut away the fender back to the hinge mount and then weld in some material to mount custom inner fenders to.

3-inch material was cut and welded in place to box the hinge mount. Same needs to be done on driver side.

With the engine back in, I moved the truck back over to the "dirty" part of my shop to try to lay out some inner fenders. This is a challenge and probably over my head, but I want to give it a try.

Re: Project "Buffalo Blizzard Surprise" 71 SWB build

I quickly found out where my limitations are. Bead rolling is not one of my strong points, so I had some inner fenders made.

These are the Mafia C10 inners that I was trying to replicate.

Re: Project "Buffalo Blizzard Surprise" 71 SWB build

So with inner fenders made for each side, it's time to test fit them into the truck...

Driver side
Name: IMG_2890.jpeg
Views: 476
Size: 40.5 KB

Passenger side
Name: IMG_2891.jpeg
Views: 514
Size: 39.8 KB

A major set back is reached because they don't fit. I guess that's what I get for trying to make inner fenders without the truck being there. This is a big problem.

Well this is how the fender modifications turned out. It was a lot of work only to find out that the fabricated inners don't fit. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

Have you tried installing the inner fenders to the fender while it is not mounted to the truck, and then install the fenders to the truck, then the core support last? I think that might work.

Ugh, that sucks man, those are beautiful pieces. And not much you can do to modify them and still have them look good after all the bead rolling. Using them as templates for round 2?

No I didn't try that because they were not even close. They were just way too long. Good thought, but there was no way they were going to fit. I'm pretty sure the OL length measurement was just flat out wrong.

Yeah I really thought about trying to modify them by cutting them and re-welding, but the bead rolls would not match up. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Project "Buffalo Blizzard Surprise" 71 SWB build

Time to move away from the inner fender issue for a while. I wanted to dig out my suspension parts and get them fit up again. My plan is to get the suspension and brakes installed so I can eventually make this thing a roller. It's been on frame jacks for too long.

A-arms ready to go on.
