Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Ok i think im going to have to use your method of wire wheel and paint thinner/stripper... I was using a 4" roloc bristle disc and it was slow and i got hit in the nuts like 5 times from bristles breaking off...That **** hurts......Way to slow

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Well done so far! Keep up the great work!! I look forward to your posts...
I too am a Canadian - and I am building up my own recent purchase (a week ago) of a 1963 C60 into a stepsider pick-up. It will be a custom long box (11') with the original stepsider fenders 'opened up' for the larger wheels. I hope to finishe the box design this weekend and order the steel next week. |

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Put the engine and transmission in last night.
SM465 gave me a work out... awkward and heavy. Lining input shaft and clutch was some more fun. Starting to make some progress now. Hope to get it ready to be fired up this weekend.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Got my alternator and power steerting hung. Got the brake booster vacuum line in place. Hooked up the throttle linkage. Finished up some wiring. Put my fuel pump on. Hung driver side header with fingers crossed, hoping no issues. Success, clearance everywhere.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Was looking at the park brake cable, and thought I cannot have this all rusty... took it out, buffed it up and painted it black.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Spent some time in the shop tonight. I have been re-organizing my shop the past couple nights.
Got everything back together and thought I would test out the new 1" impact I recently acquired. Worked mint, got the front wheels removed. I was then able to get some paint on the hubs. I was killing some time and brushed on some paint stripper on my wheels. Thought I would just see how it works, a few hours later I had the two front wheels buffed down to metal. I managed to get my money out of my angle grinder, it finally let go. See the photo. I am at a crossroad, I am trying to decide if I should paint the wheels yellow, with a black center, or black with a yellow center, or all black or all yellow. I have to think about this. The frame will be all black, gas step tank black and driver step black. I will also have some stainless lug covers. I had someone at my shop the other day suggest I go blue like my engine, I think that would be a little to wacky/tacky... ha. Also got my rad support into the shop tonight. I stripped all sand blastable parts and started applying some paint stripper to it. Slowly getting closer to the shortening of this truck.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
I would paint the wheels white. I think they would get lost being black, and yellow would be a little much.
