Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

I had the pcv system all screwed up. I was putting way too much vaccum on the heads and i guess it was forcing oil into the cylinders. I changed the valve stem seals and it got a lot better. Only did it under high rpm after that. I took vaccum completely off the heads all together and vented both sides and it started running great with no smoke. Put the exhaust on and it stopped running rich. Finally got all the air out of the power steering system. Had a scare last night tho. I pulled my radiator cap and there was black sludge at the top. I immediately thought head gasket was screwed. Isnt running hot tho. I let it settle and went back out there it was just on the top. Im just guessing it was leftover dexcool that was in the block that i didnt get all the way out. It does that when it mixes with green coolant. Getting an alignment today hopefully and ill be good!

Now that you have it on the road, how is the pusher fan working for you?

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

Im still working all the bugs out of course. As far as the pusher fan. I have driven it probably 100 miles since i finished it. Havent overheated yet. Stays around 180-200. These engines normally run over 200. Gotta figure out if i got somethong wrong in the cooling system or not. I got black fluid that keeps showing up. I thinm its dexcool mixed with green. Im gonna flush the system and see what i get. Steering linkage is messed up. I think i may have the center link on backwards. The pass side where the tierod connects to the center link. The nut tightens all the way down and the cotter pin hole is like almost a half inch away from the castle nut. It tightens way too far. Other side barely tightens to the castle nut. Im thinking the taper or stud side is different per side. If not i got a defective center link

Great looking truck! I'll definitely be looking at this during my build. Did you ever figure out the tie rod issue? Mine is the same way when I tightened them down the hole for the cotter pin is half inch away from the castle nut. I've heard of guys using washers to make up the difference but wanted to know if you found a solution. Thanks.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

Man this thing is looking great!!! I've been following the build for a while now and I love it. Ive got a 55.1 that I am doing a S10 swap on and I was going to use a TPI L98 from an 88 Trans am that is laying around but I recently came on a 5.3L LS engine out of a 03 Silverado. It is basically the block, heads, intake and throttle body. Early on you briefly mentioned the parts needed to take the engine to where it is now. Do you have a detailed list of everything you picked up?

Do you wanna go with ls car intake or use the truck intake. The truck pulleys work better on our trucks, but the car intake looks so much better. I had to get a ls1 water pump and spacers to space it out. Idler pulley relocator. a smaller power steering pulley and the intake cost. probably costs a good 1000 bux to swap to the ls6 intake from truck. Truck intake all you would need are all truck access. and get the smaller power steering pulley. You would need a harness and computer of some sort. either stock or aftermarket.

Thanks man that helps a bunch. I think I'm gonna go with the car intake cause it just looks so sweet! I did find this online and wanted to see what you thought. This guy was able to use all of the truck stuff up front and with a couple cuts and minor mods he could fit the car intake. Maybe a good way to go.

That guy did the same thing I did. only difference is the throttle body is drive by cable. It has enough room to run the truck pump water neck beside it. Mine is drive by wire, the water neck hits the throttle body so bad it wont bolt on. That's why I needed the car water pump cause the neck comes out at the side.

Oh yeah. The truck weighs about 3100lbs with me not in it. So its aptly named. Lol . This motor on this truck is PLENTY fast enough for me. My wife tried to drive it the other day and couldnt handle it haha.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

hahahhah the wife couldn't handle it, cracked me up. I tell my gal we aint getting married till she drives my truck. Its a standard so its gonna be a little harder for her I know that.

the weight sounds about right. I'd like to get my current project weighed when done, lot of fab work on it and welding, coatings etc. that stuff adds up in weight.
