Re: Project Ol' Blue
FINALLY!!! got something accomplished on ol' blue today thanks to dragonwrecker. took the rear end out and swapped the 4" drop shackles back to the stock ones. then we flipped the axle by chopping off the spring brackets and relocating them to the bottom of the axle tubes, so it would ride on top of the springs instead of under, to get the 5"s of drop i need for a level ride (she now has a 3/5 drop). when we test fitted the rear end it was hitting the bump stops under full load so we ended up notching and boxing the frame over the rear end. i still have to finish fabricating the box on the drivers side and get everything mounted back up. i figured while i was at it i would give the rear end some new hardware since the u-bolts were quite rusty and one broke when we tried to remove them. i will try to get back out tomorrow to finish it up since i did all i could handle today still being all gimped up. its great to have best friends to help. they are invaluable. dragonwrecker....soon as i heal up all the way we gotta get some stuff done on dragons breath. THANKS AGAIN BROTHER!

Re: Project Ol' Blue
well the frame and suspension are finally done. now i have to have my driveshaft cut down because of the difference from it being below the springs to now being on top of the springs. other than that, all that is left on this part is to clean and paint the frame and rear end. she is riding right now the next fabrication job is the back window. it will probably be a while for that until i can come up with the money for donor parts. but this was a BIG step in ol' blue being finished.

Re: Project Ol' Blue
[QUOTE=dragginmetal;5509065]Did you relocate your axle back ¾”-1”? This usually fixes that and it puts the rear wheels back center of the wheel wells.
Attachment 962288 no i didnt. i put them back on like they came off. i didnt measure the tire in the wheel wells before hand. i guess i took for granted that they were centered from the factory. this is my first time doing an axle flip. so by your pic it looks like i measure forward 1" from the center of the existing holes and drill new ones? and on the plate that goes between the top of the u bolt and the spring...will that still allow the u bolt to properly seat on that plate? it looks like your hole is drilled in the seat rise. and with the holes being offset will the retention strength still be there?
