Ya, the guy that bought this one requested the wood bed. I guess in the end, it's not all that bad. It's just hard to prep and paint everything in pieces.

I can't say I would have every picked this color from the chips, but after seeing Nate's truck on the cover of the LMC catalog, I had to build one!

Yeah, it just looks so clean. I'm gonna try and stay with my factory color on mine but I do love that green with the white top.

Trust me buddy.... it wasn't mine either. My '72 was originally this color as well but thought "I don't want to paint it that color." Little did I know... haha!

Re: A tribute to "Nate"

Almost done! My wife and I spent the weekend trying to get the bed finished up. After spraying the gate and wheelhouses Saturday, the wood got a final coat of clear Sunday morning. The next 9 hours was spent putting it all together. Overall I am real happy with how it turned out. A few pieces of wood were bowed from front to back, so it was a bit of a challenge to get it all fitting correctly. Here are a few pictures of the progress...

funny how the light plays tricks with that color, sometimes it looks almost turquoise and some pics it's green. Great work man, I'm looking for a painter in the area...hint, hint

I took the last bunch of pictures with my iphone and it tends to change the color whenever it wants to I guess. Thanks for the kind words! So...looking for a painter huh? What did you have in mind?

Re: A tribute to "Nate"

My dad is 79 and owns a 71 chevy shortbed, a painter had it for over a year ( this was a trade deal I set up ) and didn't accomplish much but, it needs work on door alignment and some body work still but has a good sealer and 2k primer on it. Looking to do a factory type 2 tone with white and a darker green.

That's a bummer! A year should be more than enough time....I would be willing to take a look at it. It may be a couple weeks before I can get time though....Is the truck in Surprise?

Re: A tribute to "Nate"

We put the bed back on the truck yesterday and hauled it back to the house for final reassembly, final polish and detail. Looks like the new owner will get his truck the first of next week if all goes as planned. I am sure there will be a few bugs to work out, but all in all, this build is pretty much complete. I will post some final pictures probably on Monday. I want to thank everyone for all the great comments! Thanks to Nate for the inspiration! Thanks to the guys at my shop for putting up with my stuff being in their way. Thanks to Steve and Chris at my shop for their help with some of the more technical body repair. Thanks to Jeremy at my shop for is vast parts knowledge! And most of all, I thank my wife Tracy for all her hard work! I couldn't have completed this build in just under 5 months without her! Here are a few pics with the bed on...
