Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I took down my Pypes Performance exhaust system yesterday to start preping it for it's upcoming installation. Remember EVERYTHING will be either black or blue!

I have been trying to think of a good name for my truck, can't come up with anything really original. Anybody have any ideas?

Bruiser? Black and blue theme... IDK, just the first thing that came to mind.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I do like that, I was also considering another name. My oldest brother had a 72 C10 back when I was in high school he named "under pressure" so I had been thinking of Under Pressure II

So here is a picture of the original Under Pressure when he first got it..... My brother bought it off of a friend of his named Ralph, that is his name on the door. (Remember, this was late 80's) So being that it was the late 80's, instead of just fixing the paint on the door to take off the name, my brother decided to paint the truck white with purple pearl. Did I mention it was in the 80's? Well, we couldn't find a picture of the truck after he painted it, and that is probably for the best. The other thing he did that was so horribly 80's was to paint "Under Pressure" across his back window with the bottom half of the letters partially crushed, as if they were "under pressure". I will NOT be doing this to my truck, don't worry. But, I was thinking of maybe putting it in the corner of the glove box or something small like that. Just as a proverbial nod to my brother and his 72.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
So I have my wheels on the way! Now the issue at hand is what size tires to put on them. The wheels are 18X8 front and 18X9.5 rear. I was originally thinking 255/55R18 front and 285/50R18 rear, which would be perfect but there are not many options in that 285. Anyone running something similar or have any ideas?

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Personally having been down that road I think that an aspect ratio that high on aftermarket wheels of that size look odd on 2 wheel drive trucks. That is only my opinion though. I would look at something more like 40 if it were me but I could be all washed out too! haha

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I did just come across another potability, BF Goodrich g-Force Rival makes a suitable combo of 245/40 and 295/35...... any thoughts?

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Use this to compare sizes. It's helped me out a lot. http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
I would ask if you want to keep your current overall wheel and tire height? If you're currently running 29" tall tires, the 255/55R18 will be the same, while the 245/40R18 will be down to 25.7" tall. If you don't mind shorter height, lower profiles look better in my opinion too, but I think there's a limit to how low profile I'd go. I've got 265/35R22 on 22x9.5" wheels on all 4 corners of my 71 right now and I don't like how skinny the sidewall is. I'm fairly certain they are similar to the stock tire height, and the 255/55R18's you were originally looking at would keep you in that same overall height category.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Good luck finding the tire once you find the magic size. I can't remember what size tire I was looking at or for which vehicle, but I found a magic size and couldn't find a tire in that size anywhere.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I don't know what your final ride height will be, but imho, it takes at least a 5/7 drop to make that size look right. I've run that combo before on a couple different trucks (a '92 extended cab and an '84 swb). On my '69 I have 245/40/18 fronts and 335/30/18 rears and originally planned for a 4.5"/6" drop but after mocking everything up, there was a pretty big gap between the fenders and the top of the tire. Your original plan of a 29"ish tall tire would probably look better.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I may have found the magic number! 265/50R18 front and 295/45R18 rear that comes to 28.5" on the front and rear! And both sizes are available in a Nitto tire, but I have many different resources on tires so I will see what all is available in those sizes.

That's good. I'm glad you were able to find a matching set. That was my other problem, but forgot until now. Something to look forward to...
