Re: Mike's 50

Didn't realize that it has been so long since last posting. I guess thats cause not a lot has been done.

Today I took the cab off and all the front sheet metal. Its heading off in the next couple of days for some finish firewall work and then the interior will be painted. Thinking I'm going to go with some version of the factory color on all interior metal. Underhood sheet metal will get a satin black paint job.
Figure I will try and get the chassis powder coated also while so far apart. If I can get it done before next Friday.

I also finished a set of P/S lines. I think I will have to have the pulley backside cut down for clearance of the pressure side fitting, very tight.

I will be leaving to visit my daughter and short vacation with the in laws in Hawaii.

Just read every post. Awesome build! I love the Patina on this truck and the AME frame with an LS3! Yeah..you're doing it right!

This is going to be a lot of fun to watch go together.

Re: Mike's 50

Damn - As soon as I went back to the first page and saw the Wilwood brakes, fabbed chassis, wheels, and engine I know you weren't playing. I'm tagging along for this one.

Pretty cool what a wide range of builds are on this site, everything from mild to wild, totally stock to totally custom, and absolutely everything in between. All different ages, all different visions, all different budgets all converging on the same AD and TF trucks. Love it!

Re: Mike's 50

I bought a set of hood emblems off ebay. they look like the others that I had with the original purchase. They match and will look good. 1st picture is the purchase, the 2nd picture is the one the came with original purchase.
3rd picture is a truck in my hood that I haven't seen before. nice truck!

Re: Mike's 50

I'm making progress, albeit slowly.
Cab is off at a friends getting some work done and will post when Its done. Its getting some paint along with some other pieces.
Taking the frame apart to get it ready to send out for powder coating. took a couple of pictures and reminds me of just over 2 years ago when I got the frame in 7/14.
Have to just pull front and rear suspension and then it is bare and ready to take.
Will hopefully have more pictures with more progress soon. work has changed some so we will see how that affects progress.

Re: Mike's 50

Mike, I have been reading some comments about the LS3 harmonic balancers coming apart on these motors, and they are recommending pining the HB to the crank shaft.
I just purchased one and was informed by a group on the Corvette Forum that is was good insurance while the engine was out of the chassis
Have you seen or heard anything about this problem?

Re: Mike's 50

Well I got the frame, Trans. cross member, and misc. pieces dropped off for Powder Coating, today. Went with Satin Black. They say should be done 3-4 days max.
Went today and checked some progress. First coat of black on firewall, and interior is just about ready for color. Went and got interior color also. hope it turns out like I'm looking for. Atleast it can be sanded and repainted, Just cost alittle more in labor and materials. all the small pieces need to be prepped and painted as far as inner fenders, radiator support etc. they will all match firewall. The dash was just stripped and radio know holes fixed, a previous owner hogged them out to fit a aftermarket radio and I wanted to keep the dash stock.
Last picture doesnt look it but it is a SEM hot rod black paint.

Will post more pictures as progress is made. Hopefully in a week should have complete chassis done and maybe be getting cab shell back at least.

Re: Mike's 50

Doug, Yes there is some progress being made. Its easier to get stuff done when you pay to have it done, otherwise it would have not much done. I got some motivation from a few recent car shows.

Re: Mike's 50

I had the same picture loading issue for a long time. I finally figured it out if you edit your photo on your phone (crop it a little), then upload them, the pictures work every time. Even if your phone was sideways when taking the picture. Awesome truck by the way. Those frames take out so much work and guesswork, they are worth the money. Wish I would of figured that out at the start.
